Enjoy the weekend. Seasonable temperatures today trend warmer Sunday. Showers and storms return Monday.

Dry conditions with seasonably warm temperatures are expected through the weekend. Showers and storms return on Monday, with breezy SW winds and temperatures in the 90s forecast ahead of any developing storms. A more summer-like pattern takes hold for much of next week, with slight to low-end chance PoPs and near to slightly above normal temperatures.

If you step outside this afternoon, you might forget it's almost the summer solstice! A beautiful post-frontal breeze has swept through, bringing us sustained winds of 10 to 15 mph and some refreshing gusts reaching 20 to 25 mph.

When the sun sets this evening temperatures should tumble quickly. Lows tonight are expected to dip into the 50s, so open the windows and enjoy the cool crisp conditions.

An area of low pressure tracks to the south of the local area through this afternoon. Tropical moisture will continue to spread north and interact with an approaching cold front. While most rain is currently light, heavier pockets of rain are forecast to develop through midday. Isolated instances of flash flooding is possible across SE VA/NE NC, mainly in urban areas.

A few showers early give way to sunshine. Should be seasonably warm with 70s in the mountains to mid 80s in the Piedmont. Partly cloudy tonight with lows in the 50s for most areas.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until Noon for areas generally north of the NC/VA border and into the state of WV. A link to the latest weather radar imagery will be placed in the comments.

The main threat from storms tomorrow will be damaging winds in the afternoon/evening, but a tornado cannot be ruled out. Try to hike/boat/do activities earlier in the day if possible. It will also be very gusty tomorrow even without the thunderstorms, so put your lawn furniture up!
