HRBT OPEN IN BOTH DIRECTIONS! The I-64 HRBT reopened westbound toward Hampton at approx 3 a.m. Oct. 11, more than a day early following completion of westbound repaving.

Next: Eastbound closures toward Norfolk begin Oct. 16 at 9 p.m.

Post-T.C. Isaias will continue to bring widespread heavy rainfall with the threat for scattered to numerous instances of flash flooding today, particularly across the higher terrain of the southern Appalachians.

⚠️ HEAVY RAINFALL COULD TRIGGER LANDSLIDES IN VIRGINIA

As Hurricane Isaias moves north, heavy rainfall is raising concerns about potential landslides, particularly in western North Carolina and areas of Virginia under a Flood Watch.

🌧️ Just 3 inches of rain in 24 hours can destabilize slopes, especially those altered by human activity. Heavier rainfall increases the risk of landslides and dangerous debris flows.

🚨 Stay safe:
✅ Monitor weather alerts and local forecasts.
✅ Watch for warning signs like ground cracks, leaning trees, or unusual rumbling.
✅ Stay away from steep slopes and never walk or drive through floodwaters.
✅ Remember: Landslides can occur during rainfall or hours after it ends.

Heavy Rain & Potential Flooding Late Saturday into Sunday Morning

What to expect:
• Timing: Rain will begin in North Carolina late Saturday morning, spreading across the forecast area throughout the day.
• Intensity: Rain will gradually intensify Saturday night into Sunday morning, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall.
• Rainfall Amounts: Most areas are expected to see 1 to 2 inches of rain, with higher totals likely along the Blue Ridge.

Isaias will bring areas of heavy rainfall to the central U.S. Gulf coast and much of the Southeast through the weekend. Considerable flash and urban flooding, along with significant river flooding, will be possible. Landslides are also possible across the Southern Appalachians.

DEQ and the Drought Monitoring Task Force have lifted the drought watch in three counties in Southwest Virginia. All other drought advisories have been maintained.
