Marking 1 Year of Purposeful Service , Growth, & Impact
Judge Keisha T. Smith earned her Master of Legal Studies from Texas A&M University and Master of Public Administration from Texas Southern University. Since taking office on January 1, 2025, Judge Keisha T. Smith has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to the citizens of Fort Bend County. She and her dedicated staff at Justice of the Peace Precinct 4 (JP4) have made significant strides in addressing the backlog of nearly 17,000 cases. In 2025, JP4 continued its long-standing trend as one of the busiest courts in the county, receiving 19,822 new case filings. That heavy caseload has not slowed down. Following the redistricting that took effect at the beginning of 2026, JP4 has received 1,097 new filings as of January 20, 2026, representing 32% of all cases filed across the county’s JP courts.
After nearly three and a half years without trials in the JP4 courtroom, Judge Smith has successfully reopened the doors to justice, allowing citizens the opportunity to have their day in court. Thanks to her strategic planning and the hard work of her team, JP4 has disposed of an impressive 11,824 cases in 2025, setting a positive precedent for the future of our judicial system.
Judge Smith's dedication and leadership extend beyond the courtroom. She has been elected to serve as President of the TSU BJMLSOPA Alumni Chapter. Recognizing the importance of community engagement, she has initiated several programs aimed at supporting the youth of Fort Bend County. One of her notable projects is a three-week Art Course for youth in the Juvenile Detention Center. This initiative not only provides creative outlets for the young participants but also culminates in an annual gala presentation, where the youth’s artwork is showcased and celebrated.
Judge Smith's focus and drive have already made a significant impact in Fort Bend County. Her commitment to justice and community engagement continues to inspire those around her. As her second year progresses, we look forward to seeing the positive changes she will bring to our community and the judicial system. She is committed to fostering community connections.
