On Memorial Day, we honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. Cpl. Benjamin S. Kopp, a member of the 75th Army Ranger Regiment, saved six of his comrades when his unit came under attack in Afghanistan. He was mortally wounded and saved four more lives in the U.S. through his selfless gift of organ donation. The Fallen Soldier statue stands at the National Donor Memorial to honor Koop and all those military members who made organ, eye, and tissue donation their last courageous act of service. The Memorial is a peaceful place for all who wish to honor the gift of life.๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š

More than 41,000 women are currently on the national transplant waiting list, and 86% of them are waiting for a kidney. While 37 million Americans are affected by kidney disease, women tend to face more specific challenges linked to kidney disease. You can help -- register your decision to be an organ, eye and tissue donor and learn more about living kidney donation at DonateLife.net.

Exciting news! This morning, we marked the launch of UNOSโ€™ partnership with NASA Langley Research Center to explore how drones could help transport organs faster, safer and more efficiently. By combining NASAโ€™s flight expertise with UNOSโ€™ transplant system knowledge, weโ€™re studying how this technology could strengthen the nationโ€™s transplant logistics networkโ€”and help save more lives.

Thank you NASA and Richmond Mayor Danny TK Avula, and to the district staff representing Senator Mark Warner and Jennifer McClellan for joining us and for your continued support of innovation in health and public service.
