Ridgefield CT Fire Department The mission of the Ridgefield Fire Department is to provide the public safety services necessary to minimize the loss of life and/or property.

10/15/2026

October is Fire Safety Month—and that includes the safety of our firefighters.

Throughout the month, Ridgefield firefighters are training on firefighter safety and survival: the skills, teamwork, and communication needed when conditions deteriorate and one of our own needs help.

This training exercise challenged crews to locate and remove a downed firefighter from a basement—one of the most physically demanding and complex rescue situations firefighters may face. Practicing under realistic conditions helps our members stay prepared, work as a coordinated team, and make sound decisions when every second counts.

Protecting our community begins with making sure our firefighters are trained to protect one another.

A few minutes today could protect your family tonight.

As part of October Fire Safety Month, take time to check every smoke and carbon monoxide alarm in your home:

• Press the test button on each alarm.
• Replace any alarm that is expired or does not work.
• Make sure alarms can be heard from every sleeping area.
• If an alarm sounds, get outside, stay outside, and call 911.

Working alarms provide the early warning you need when every second matters.

We know why Ridgefield families may keep bedroom doors open at night. But when it comes to fire safety, a closed door can make a life-saving difference.

A closed door can drastically slow the spread of fire, smoke, heat and carbon monoxide giving you more time to wake up and escape

Before going to sleep, close bedroom doors and make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are working.

If there’s a fire: Get out, stay out and call 911. Never go back inside.

Close your doors at night. Doors stop fire—and a simple habit could save a life.
