Jasper County Seeks Grays Community Input on Preservation of Former Grays Consolidated High School Site

RIDGELAND, SC – Jasper County Development Services Division and the Parks and Recreation Department are developing a Capital Improvement Project to improve the Grays Community Park and stabilize the deteriorating historic structures on the site of the former Grays Consolidated High School. The County wants to hear from the community and solicit feedback on the park plans.

Capital Project plans include demolition of a block structure in the adjacent wooded area and the former boiler house. The remainder of the project is a thoughtful restoration of the former school building's front steps.

Citizens are encouraged to submit comments to the Development Services Office before November 15, 2026.

🐾 Jasper County Animal Services Needs Your Help! 🐾

Following the seizure of 37 dogs found living in inhumane conditions inside an RV, an already full shelter is now overwhelmed and could use our community’s support.

Whether you can volunteer your time, donate dog food and supplies, or help spread the word, every little bit makes a difference in ensuring these animals receive the care they deserve.

Know someone who could benefit from a furry friend? Encourage them to consider adoption and give a deserving animal a loving home!

Early voting is officially underway!

Jasper County residents can now cast their ballots early ahead of Election Day. Early voting is open Monday, October 19, through Saturday, October 31, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

Two early voting locations are available in Ridgeland and Hardeeville. Check out the graphic for addresses and make a plan to vote!

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month!

At some point during the day, everyone is a pedestrian. Unlike drivers, pedestrians do not have the protection of a vehicle and its safety features during a crash.

In 2024, a pedestrian died in a traffic collision every 74 minutes, and one was injured every 7 minutes, on average.

With Halloween approaching, pedestrian safety is especially important as more children and families are out walking. Slow down, stay alert, use crosswalks, and make yourself visible after dark. 🚶

Applications Are Now Open for the Jasper County Greenbelt Fund!

Jasper County is accepting applications for the first-ever grant cycle of its $94 million Greenbelt Fund!

The program supports land conservation, greenspace, protection of natural resources, agricultural and historic landscapes, and scenic corridors throughout the County.

Applications are due October 30, 2026. New application cycles are expected to open every three months.

Landowners, conservation organizations, and other interested parties are encouraged to apply!

Public Comments:
Any Jasper County citizen may sign up to speak in person at the meeting before the regular meeting begins. Public comments must pertain to Board of Elections services and operations.

• Comments are limited to 3 minutes per person.
• Total public input is limited to 30 minutes.
• Written public comments may be submitted by 1 PM on October 8 by emailing [email protected].
