He also served 28 years at Canton Fire Department and is retiring from there as a Shift Commander.

Due to the incoming front that will bring sustained wind speeds of 15 to 20 mph and the dry vegetation from the lack of rain over the past few weeks, the City of Ridgeland will have a Burn Ban in effect from sunrise Friday October 16th to sunset Sunday October 18th. We encourage those that want to burn limbs, leaves, and other combustible items to not burn and wait for more favorable conditions.

Once the ban lifts, you can burn in approved fire pits. If you have questions, feel free to reach out to the Fire Department.

Congratulations Malcolm Scott on completing Fire Investigator!

For the Investigator, the job doesn’t start until after the fire. They dig deep, gather clues, and work with law enforcement to figure out what really happened.

The Ridgeland Fire Department is proud to congratulate Firefighters Jackson Smith, Brent Price, and John Jolly on successfully completing their probationary year and officially earning the rank of Firefighter.

Over the past year, each completed the requirements of EMT-Basic training and National Registry certification, the Mississippi State Fire Academy Physical Fitness Test, Hazardous Materials Awareness and Operations, and Firefighter Basic training in accordance with NFPA 1010.

Earning the title of Firefighter represents a significant milestone built on commitment, discipline, and dedication to the fire service. In recognition of this achievement, each was presented with his leather helmet shield, symbolizing both his rank and the responsibility that comes with serving as a Ridgeland Firefighter.

Please join us in congratulating these three firefighters on this well-earned accomplishment.
