Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, Ridgewood PBA Local 20 joins our nation in remembering the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice, and all those whose lives were forever changed by that day.
We also take this opportunity to recognize a part of our own Local 20 history.
Exactly one week after the attacks, on September 18, 2001, Brothers Knapp, Henky, Butler, Hemmer, and Elwood traveled to Ground Zero to assist with the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts. They helped support the men and women working on the pile by delivering and supplying much-needed food, equipment, and other necessities.
Like countless police officers, firefighters, first responders, volunteers, and ordinary Americans who answered the call in the days and weeks following September 11th, they went where help was needed.
Twenty-five years later, we remember their service and the extraordinary unity, courage, and selflessness displayed during one of the darkest periods in our nation’s history.
We honor those who were lost.
We remember those who responded.
We recognize those who continued to serve in the difficult days, weeks, months, and years that followed.
September 11, 2001 — Never Forget. 🇺🇸
