Exceedingly high moisture across the region will get worked on today by a shortwave. As this occurs, moderate to heavy rain is expected especially for southern portions of the forecast area. With that, a moderate risk for flash flooding is possible for the same area. We start drying out Friday afternoon.

Ridgway Bank Building Officially Added to the National Register of Historic Places

The Town of Ridgway is proud to announce that the Ridgway Bank Building has been officially listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties. The official designation took place on September 30, 2026 by the U.S. Department of the Interior.

This milestone marks the successful conclusion of an effort led by the property owner, Greg Young, and supported by the Town of Ridgway, to recognize the significance of the Bank Building. Constructed in 1911, by banker, builder, and civic leader Amos E. Walther, the Bank Building served as Ridgway’s first permanent financial institution and quickly became the center of the town’s commercial and civic life. It stands prominently on the corner parcel that fronts Clinton Street to the south and Lena Street to the east.

“It’s an honor to be the steward of Ridgway’s Bank Building,” said Greg Young, owner of the Bank Building property. “This 1911 building served as the town’s commercial heart. Among the businesses housed here were the Bank of Ridgway, the post office, the telephone switchboard, and the drugstore. I’m looking forward to continuing the rehabilitation that began in 2021 and will continue over the ensuing years.”

The Town of Ridgway expresses its appreciation to the Colorado State Historic Preservation Office, Greg Young, and others who contributed time, expertise, and passion to the nomination process. “This designation is an extraordinary achievement for our town,” said Mayor John Clark. “The Bank Building reflects stories of resilience, culture, and pride. Its recognition on the National Register honors the people and the history that make Ridgway the uniquely special community that it is.”

Listing on the National Register of Historic Places does not place restrictions on private property owners. However, it may offer access to preservation incentives, grant opportunities, educational programming, and enhanced awareness of the building’s historic significance.

Attention Ouray County Businesses!
Ouray County: SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan - Data Collection Form - 📣 Deadline is October 9

The Colorado Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM) is collecting Small Business Administration (SBA) data from businesses that experienced economic losses due to the Gold Mountain Wildfire, and subsequent flooding and mudslides.

About the SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) Program:
The EIDL Program provides low-interest loans, NOT a grant, for businesses in an SBA-declared disaster area. This survey is the first step in a longer process for determining if EIDL Loans can be made available.

‼️ Please Note:
Completing this form is NOT a guarantee of funding.
Completing this form is NOT an application for an SBA EIDL loan.
This form assesses the number of impacted businesses and their interest in an EIDL loan.
Agricultural businesses (e.g., wineries, ranchers, crop growers) are NOT eligible for EIDL.

Ridgway reminds pet owners of responsibilities

Ridgway is a dog-friendly town, where dogs are welcome to play and socialize under proper supervision of their guardian. For everyone’s safety, the Town of Ridgway is reminding people to follow the Town’s leash laws, which apply to all dogs when off the owner’s property.

The Ridgway Municipal Code (“RMC”) defines a “mandatory leash area” where dogs must be on a leash. This area is bounded by Amelia Street, Moffat Street, Railroad Street, Otto Street (between Railroad and Cora Streets), Frederick Street (between Cora and Mary Streets), and Charles Street (Mary to Amelia Streets). The Uncompahgre River Trail, Rollans Park, any area posted for leash control only, and sporting events are also included in the “mandatory leash area.” Click on the link to check out the Town’s Leash Law Brochure, which includes a map of the Town’s “mandatory leash area.”https://townofridgway.colorado.gov/sites/g/files/lrnvjt1246/files/documents/Dog-Brochure-2026-Final-Acc.pdf

In all other areas of Town not bound by the mandatory leash area, dogs are required to be under voice and sight control, which includes all of the following: the dog returns to your side immediately upon a single command, the dog remains at your side regardless of any distractions, and the dog does not charge, chase or display aggression toward any person, dog, wildlife, livestock or other being.

Ridgway’s leash laws (RMC Section 11-1-6, “Running at Large Prohibited”), are available to read online. The brochure linked above contains a QR code to the law. Citations may be issued for violation of the Town’s leash laws.

Leashes prevent your dog from chasing other animals or people and from getting lost. They provide a sense of safety for your pet, and it is much more difficult for them to get loose and run off if they become scared by a loud or strange noise. Dog bites often occur when dogs are feeling scared, insecure or defensive. Our town streets, sidewalks, parks and trails are enjoyed by all residents and visitors, not just dog owners.

If an unfamiliar dog approaches you, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that you:
• Stay still and be calm.
• Avoid direct eye contact with the dog.
• Do not panic, make loud noises or run.
• Say “no” or “go home” in a firm, deep voice and stand with the side of your body facing the dog.
• Slowly raise your hands to your neck with your elbows in and wait for the dog to pass or slowly back away.

To report an issue, please contact the Ridgway Marshal’s Office at 970-249-9110. For an emergency, please dial 911. For questions regarding these regulations or requests for additional information, please contact Preston Neill, Ridgway Town Manager, at [email protected] or 970-626-5308, ext. 212.
