**THIS PAGE IS NOT MONITORED 24/7. PLEASE CALL 911 FOR ALL EMERGENCIES.**

The mission of the Rindge Fire Department is to protect the lives, property and environment of the Town of Rindge and surrounding communities when called upon. We are a paid combination full-time/on-call fire department that is led by Fire Chief Rick Donovan. The station is staffed during the business hours of 8:00AM-6:00PM Monday through Saturday. Outside of these hours, members respond from home. We operate out of two fire stations to provide fire protection as well as non-transport Advanced Life Support Emergency Medical Services to the Town of Rindge. Our fleet of apparatus includes two Class "A" Engines used for primary fire suppression, one Tanker that carries 2100 gallons of water, one Rescue truck used for EMS response as well as vehicle extrication and technical rescue operations, one Brush truck used for battling brush fires and small outside fires and one Hose truck that carries 3200' of large diameter hose (LDH) for the purpose of moving large amounts of water from a fire hydrant, pond or stream, to the scene of a fire. In addition, we utilize two Command vehicles, a boat, an ATV and various emergency response trailers that hold equipment such as traffic control devices, Haz-Mat equipment and ice/water resuce equipment.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RINDGE, NH –

On Saturday, September 12th, 2026, at 0126hrs a 911 caller reported a house fire “down the road” on Monadnock View Road in Rindge. The first alarm assignment was immediately dispatched. While en route, dispatch advised 26 C1 Chief Bob Faas of multiple additional 911 calls reporting a fully involved house fire at 34 Monadnock View Road. 26 C1 arrived on scene at 0135hrs and reported a working fire with heavy smoke and fire showing from all four sides of the residence. It was quickly confirmed that all occupants were able to evacuate the home safely.

Due to the heavy volume of fire, a defensive exterior posture was assumed upon the arrival of 26 Engine 2, and no firefighters entered the building. Three additional tankers above the first alarm assignment were requested to the scene due to initial difficulty in establishing a reliable water source. A water source was established on Route 119 shortly after and tankers shuttled water to the fire scene as extinguishment efforts continued. The homeowner was evaluated on scene by the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance and released.

Eversource was requested to the scene to secure utilities. The New Hampshire State Fire Marshall’s Office was contacted and is assisting the Rindge Fire Department with fire cause investigation and determination. The home is believed to be a total loss.

Incident Command: Fire Chief Bob Faas, 26 C1
Rindge Units on Scene: 26 Engine 2, 26 Tanker 1, 26 Rescue 1, 26 Utility 1, 26 Car 1
Rindge Personnel on Scene: 8
Mutual Aid Units on Scene: Jaffrey Engine & Tanker, Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, Winchendon MA Engine, Fitzwilliam Tanker, Troy Ladder & Tanker, Ashby MA Tanker, Richmond Tanker, Ashburnham MA Tanker, New Ipswich Tanker, Keene Engine, Temple Tanker, Richmond Tanker. Re: Town of Rindge Selects Peterborough Fire & Rescue for Ambulance Transport Services Beginning in 2027

Rindge, New Hampshire — The Town of Rindge, in coordination with the Rindge Fire Department, has selected Peterborough Fire & Rescue to provide ambulance transport services to the community beginning on January 1, 2027.

This decision follows several months of evaluation and discussions regarding the future of emergency medical transportation services in Rindge. During this process, the Town and Fire Department evaluated current service delivery, operational needs, response capabilities, communication, contractual considerations, and the ability to provide reliable emergency medical transportation to the residents and visitors of Rindge.

Prior to final evaluation and determination of the most acceptable proposal by the Board of Selectmen and Town Administrator, an Ambulance Services Committee consisting of the Fire Chief, Deputy Chief of EMS and four citizens at large spent several months evaluating four different emergency medical services, including our current provider, Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance. The committees focus was to evaluate the operational and service components of each service, while the Board of Selectman and Town Administrator’s focus was the financial and contractual considerations of the three proposals we received.

Providing our residents with dependable emergency medical services is one of the most important responsibilities we have. Under the new service model, Rindge Fire Department will continue to provide non-transport emergency medical first response up to the Advanced Life Support (ALS) level, while Peterborough Fire & Rescue will provide ambulance transportation when a patient requires transport to a medical facility.

This is an important distinction. Rindge Fire Department is not stepping away from EMS. Our members will continue to respond to medical emergencies, provide patient care, initiate treatment, and work alongside the transporting ambulance crew. Our goal is to ensure that the highest level of appropriate care is provided without unnecessary delay.

The Town believes that partnering with Peterborough Fire & Rescue will provide a strong regional approach to ambulance transportation while allowing Rindge Fire Department to remain focused on providing rapid first response and comprehensive emergency services within the community. The partnership also provides opportunities for the two departments to work together on training, communications, operational coordination, and continued improvement of emergency medical services throughout the region.

Any change of this size requires preparation. Our departments will work together to make sure the transition is as seamless as possible for our residents, our dispatch partners, our hospitals, and—most importantly—our patients.

The Rindge Fire Department will continue to evaluate the communities EMS needs and work with Peterborough Fire & Rescue and other regional partners to ensure that emergency medical services remain responsive, professional, and patient-centered.

Ultimately, this is about the people we serve. When someone in Rindge calls 911, they should know that help is coming, that trained professionals will be there, and that those professionals will work together to provide the care that patient needs. That will remain our commitment.

The Town of Rindge and Rindge Fire Department would like to thank the community, emergency service partners, municipal officials, and members of the Ambulance Services Committee who participated in the evaluation and planning process.

The transition will be carefully planned before services begin on January 1, 2027.

Additional information regarding the transition, including implementation details and the anticipated start date for Peterborough Fire/EMS ambulance transportation, will be provided as those details are finalized.

Respectfully,

Robert Joseph Faas Jr.
Fire Chief

Today we honor the nearly 3,000 lives lost 25-years ago this morning on September 11, 2001 and pay tribute to the courage of those first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to others. Their bravery and dedication remain an inspiration to us all.

A special acknowledgement to Fire Chief Bob Faas (middle row, second from left) who responded to the Pentagon on September 11th and 12th with a task force of firefighters from Montgomery County, Maryland just three months after leaving Rindge in June of 2001.

We will never forget.

Please keep your thoughts with Larry’s family during this absolutely heartbreaking time. RIP Larry, we’ve got it from here.

🖤🖤🖤💙❤️🖤🖤🖤

It is with heavy hearts and great sorrow that we announce the loss of our beloved friend Lawrence "Larry" T. Harris.

Larry passed away peacefully at his home yesterday morning.

He selflessly served the town of Rindge for nearly 7 decades, holding numerous roles within the Fire Department and the Police Department as well as contributing to nearly every other department in Town. He was easily the most recognized person in town. He will be most remembered for his 64-year position as the town's Animal Control Officer. Upon his retirement, he was bestowed with that honorary lifetime title.

Arrangements are pending - honoring a lifetime of service takes time to plan.

If you have a memory of Larry that you would like to share, please feel free to leave comments here and we will make sure that they are relayed to his family. I will personally always remember Larry's larger than life personality, super-human abilities, and constant presence during the 22 years that I had the honor of knowing him.

We will miss you, my dear friend. You have served our community well and we will forever hold you in our hearts. It is now time to rest, sir. We will carry on in the example of the life that you led.

Respectfully,
Chief Malynowski
