Today, we wanted to take a closer look at one of the district's many career technical education-centered classes; Ms. Mondragon's Consumer Sciences course at Mountain View Middle School!

When we visited, Ms. M's class was celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month by learning about and making their very own paletas. Throughout the year, her class takes part in many cultural celebrations while learning the ins and outs of kitchen management, food preparation, and intoduction to business.

Take a look at this video to experience a day in the life of an MVMS Consumer Sciences student!

Rio Rancho Public Schools was proud to host the New Mexico Legislative Education Study Committee (LESC) last week!

As part of the committee's scheduled legislative hearings, state lawmakers and education leaders gathered at RRPS to discuss important issues impacting public education across New Mexico.

Superintendent Dodd delivered a presentation to the committee and participated in a panel discussion alongside Dr. Gabriella Duran Blakey, superintendent of Albuquerque Public Schools, Ignacio Ruiz, superintendent of Las Cruces Public Schools, and Dr. Christine Griffin, superintendent of Santa Fe Public Schools.

Committee members also had an opportunity to tour our very own RioTECH, getting a firsthand look at the exciting career and technical education opportunities available to RRPS students!

Throughout the hearings, attendees heard important presentations and updates on education funding, budgets, legislative priorities, and other issues shaping the future of public education in our state.

A big THANK YOU to the LESC members, legislators, education leaders, presenters, and everyone who attended and participated in these important conversations and for continually supporting public education in New Mexico! We appreciate your commitment to New Mexico's students and educators, and we were honored to welcome you to Rio Rancho Public Schools!

V. Sue Cleveland High School celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with a lunchtime performance by Mariachi Xochitl! Hosted by the school’s Multicultural Club, the event brought students together to enjoy traditional Mexican music with a spirited New Mexican influence. 💃🎺

A special thank-you to Mrs. Burns and Mr. Riniker for supporting the Multicultural Club and helping students share, appreciate, and celebrate the cultures that make the Storm community so special! 💙⚡

✨ Accio magic! ✨

Ernest Stapleton turned into Hogwarts today for Harry Potter Day! Students stepped into a world of spells, houses, and magical fun as Ms. Martinez taught the class how to use their wands. 🪄

The enchantment didn’t stop there—students also enjoyed homemade Butterbeer, making the day even more magical. 🧙‍♂️⚡

828,079 MINUTES OF READING!

That's right! During just TWO weeks in September, students across Rio Rancho Public Schools' 11 elementary schools logged an incredible 828,079 minutes of reading as part of the 2026 Intel Reading Challenge! That's more than 13,800 collective hours spent reading!

On Monday, we had the pleasure of celebrating 22 outstanding young readers who went above and beyond during this year's challenge! Each elementary school recognized two winners, one from grades K–2 and one from grades 3–5, who logged the most reading minutes in their respective grade groups.

And their hard work paid off! Each of our 22 winners received a brand-new Kindle reading device to help them continue exploring new stories and developing their love of reading!

A few more impressive highlights from this year's challenge:

Ernest Stapleton Elementary led the district with an incredible 199,368 minutes read!

Colinas del Norte Elementary logged 144,522 minutes, with an average of 273 minutes per student!

Gabriel Mason from Enchanted Hills Elementary logged an astounding 4,899 minutes, the highest individual total among this year's winners!

A HUGE thank you to Intel for making this year's Reading Challenge possible and for continuing to invest in literacy and the success of our students. Your partnership helps inspire the next generation of lifelong readers!

We also want to give a special shoutout to Dion's for generously providing pizza for Monday's celebration, where our winners and their families came together to recognize these incredible accomplishments!

Congratulations to all 22 winners, and to EVERY student who participated! Whether you read for 20 minutes or 2,000, every page turned is a step toward a brighter future.

Keep reading, RRPS!
