Yesterday our crews participated in a mass casualty incident drill. We spent time with members of station 30 and 70 fire departments as they helped make this as realistic as possible. We are very thankful for their help!

We continue to work hard and learn more every day to serve Jackson County!

Today we had the honor, along with Station 30 Volunteer Fire Department, in sending off one of our own. Lewis was sent off to serve our country, and we couldn’t be more proud!

He will be missed while he is gone, but his sacrifice for this county is something that fills our agency with so much pride!

David Crawford was honored with the Ritchie Memorial Scholarship here at JCEMS. Without this, David was facing paying for his paramedic schooling on his own. The Ritchie Scholarship has helped several of our employees advance into getting their paramedic license to better serve our great community. We, as well as David, are so grateful to the Ritchie family for such a gracious and generous donation.

David, we are so proud of you for taking this step towards your career and can’t wait to see what great achievements you make! We wish you nothing but the best & know that you will excel!

April is Autism Awareness Month
🚑💙 Supporting Autism in EMS: Understanding, Patience, and Care 💙🚑
As first responders, we encounter all kinds of situations, and one of the most important things we can do is be aware of and sensitive to the unique needs of individuals with autism. Whether we are responding to a medical emergency or transporting a patient, it's essential to remember that:
🔹 Routine matters: People with autism often feel more comfortable when there is predictability in their surroundings. Communicate calmly and clearly about what will happen during the response.
🔹 Sensory sensitivities: Emergency sirens, flashing lights, and loud noises can be overwhelming. Whenever possible, try to minimize these stimuli and check in with the patient to make sure they’re feeling as comfortable as possible.
🔹 Social interaction: Understanding that some individuals may have difficulty with eye contact, communication, or emotional expression is key. Be patient, listen actively, and respect personal space.
Let's make a difference by improving our awareness and creating a more inclusive and compassionate approach to care. Together, we can build a safer, more understanding environment for everyone. 🌍💙
