Meet this beautiful Cooper’s Hawk (Accipiter cooperii)! This incredible bird of prey is known for its speed, agility, and impressive hunting abilities.

🌿 Habitat: Cooper’s Hawks primarily live in temperate forests and open woodlands, but they have adapted incredibly well to urban and suburban environments.

🐦 Diet: These hawks primarily feast on smaller birds, making them skilled aerial hunters.

⚖️ Size Difference: Male Cooper’s Hawks are significantly smaller than females, a characteristic known as sexual dimorphism.

🪽 Built for Maneuvering: Their short, rounded wings and very long tail allow them to make quick turns and navigate through trees while pursuing prey.

💨 Speedy Hunters: Cooper’s Hawks typically cruise around 30–60 mph, but can reach approximately 60–70 mph when chasing prey!

👀 A Perfect Predator: Their body shape and powerful flight abilities make them incredibly well adapted for pursuing birds through wooded environments.

🛟 A Big Thank You!
We want to send a huge thank you to the Rising Sun Fire Department and Ohio County Animal Control for assisting with the rescue of this beautiful bird! 🦅❤️ Your help made it possible for him to get the care he needs.

He is now on his way to being rehabilitated, with the ultimate goal of returning him to the wild where he belongs! 🌳🦅 We’ll be rooting for this guy every step of the way!

🥵☀️ WE ARE MELTING… AND SO ARE THE ANIMALS! 🐺🦊

This heatwave has officially reached the “who put the sun this close to us?” stage. 😂 Our animals are doing their best to stay cool, and honestly… the humans are right there with them!

Everyone is taking advantage of shady spots, plenty of fresh water, and whatever cool-down strategies they can find. 💦🌳 Because when it’s this hot, even the animals are looking at us like, “Excuse me, can you turn the temperature down?”😂

Want to help make a difference for one of our incredible animals? ❤️ Sponsor an Animal and help provide the food, care, enrichment, and daily necessities they rely on all year long.

Every sponsorship helps us continue caring for the animals who call Red Wolf home. 🐾
