🌳 TREE SWAP & GIVE AWAY! 🌳

Let’s grow a greener Rising Sun together!

The Ohio County Public Library is hosting a Tree Swap & Give Away on Saturday, October 17, 2026!

Have a young tree growing where it shouldn’t? Dig it up and bring it to swap with someone who has a spot waiting for a tree! Or simply come choose a tree for your own yard. 🌱

Trees that make good candidates include:
🍁 Maple
🌳 Oak
🌼 Catalpa
🌷 Tulip Poplar
💚 Pawpaw
🌸 Redbud
🌿 Serviceberry
🌳 River Birch
🌳 Sycamore
🍂 Persimmon
…and others!

A few important tips:
🌱 Smaller trees transplant best. We recommend trees 1–2 inches or less in trunk diameter.
🍂 Dig trees after the leaves have dropped, while the ground is still workable.
🪴 Dig wide rather than deep and keep as much of the root system as possible.
💧 Keep roots moist and protected during transport.
🌳 Replant as soon as possible.

Bring a tree. Take a tree. Share a little shade with your community. ☀️🌳

Official Rules
* Pumpkins must be FAKE!
Foam, plastic, ceramic, paper mâché, etc.
No real pumpkins.
*Your pumpkin must represent a character from a book.
No carving is required.
Paint, glue, fabric, paper, yarn, clay, accessories, etc. are all welcome.
Each entry must include:
Character's name
Title of the book
Entrant's name
Category
*One pumpkin per person or family.
*Pumpkins should be sturdy enough to remain on display at the library.
*The library reserves the right to refuse an entry that is inappropriate for public display.

Prize Categories: Family, Teen, and Adult
Pumpkins can be turned in October 12 thru 23.
Voting Begins the October 24

Come get creative with us at the library! Join us Saturday, October 10 at 10:00 AM for a fun morning of painting your very own decorative fake pumpkin. 🎨🎃

FREE to anyone over 15 years of age, thanks to the generosity of the Indiana Arts Commission! ❤️

All supplies are provided, but you must sign up because space is limited.

Come enjoy a little fall fun and make something pretty to take home! 🍁🎃
