🚒 Thank You, River Forest! 🚒

Rain or shine, our residents showed up — and that means more to us than words can say. Thank you to everyone who came out to this year's Annual Open House to meet your firefighters and paramedics, tour the trucks, and see some live demonstrations, even with the wet weather working against us!

We also want to recognize our amazing partners, without whom this event wouldn't be possible:

👮 River Forest Police Department
🎓 Concordia University Nursing Department
🤝 By Your Side
🏊 CAST

Being able to connect with our community like this is one of the best parts of what we do. Thank you for continuing to show up for us, year after year.

We look forward to seeing you all again next year — and we're already forecasting nothing but sunshine for next year! ☀️😉

⛈️ September is National Preparedness Month — Know Your Severe Weather

Being prepared starts with knowing the terms and having a plan before storms hit.

A few key reminders:
⚡ A Watch means conditions are possible — stay alert. A Warning means it's happening — take shelter now.
⚡ Have more than one way to receive alerts (weather radio, phone app, TV/radio) — don't rely on outdoor sirens alone, especially overnight.
⚡ Know your safe shelter spot at home: lowest level, interior room, away from windows.
⚡ Never drive through flooded roads — Turn Around, Don't Drown.

Stay weather-aware and have a plan ready. 🌪️

🎒 September is National Preparedness Month!

All month long, we'll be sharing weekly tips to help you and your family get ready for the unexpected.

First up: Build a Kit.
Every emergency kit should include water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, first aid supplies, and copies of important documents — enough to get your household through at least 3 days on your own.

Check back each week for more, and grab the full checklist at Ready.gov/kit.

Happy 133rd Anniversary, RFFD!

Since 1893, the River Forest Fire Department has grown from a volunteer hose cart brigade into a fully trained department delivering advanced life support, modern apparatus, and paramedic care to our community.

Today, we're proud of a team that shows up for River Forest every single day — whether that's a medical emergency, a community safety program, or getting to know our neighbors at events like our upcoming Community Open House.

And we're not slowing down. As we look to the next 133 years, we're focused on strengthening how we serve you — including through Community Connect, our free platform that lets you share household safety details directly with our dispatchers before an emergency happens. It's one more way we're working to respond faster and smarter for you.

👉 Sign up today — https://www.vrf.us/departments/department/1/Community-Connect-Share-Emergency-Info-with-Responders.html

Thank you for trusting us with 133 years of service.
