RRAS is a city municipal animal shelter and can only accept animals from River Rouge and Ecorse, Michigan, USA. The improved shelter is now very rescue friendly, but is still small. We do our best to network the animals in hopes of reuniting them w their rightful owner, finding suitable adopters, or rescues.

We don’t understand why this beautiful girl is still sitting in the shelter. Poppy is the absolute sweetest. She likes other dogs and she is friendly with everyone, and seriously just look at her!

Poppy is about a year and a half old, she is fully vetted, meaning she is spayed and she is heartworm tested negative and she is on all preventatives.

Did we tell you that our sweetest boy Teddy is going to a foster home?  He had a meet and greet with a wonderful young man and his two dogs. Tomorrow Teddy will be making his way to Ann Arbor and he will begin his heartworm treatment and his journey to the life he has always deserved.

For those who don’t recall, Teddy was tethered to a wooden deck, his entire life, where the only shelter he had was underneath the deck. When he came into the shelter he was painfully thin and yes, heartworm positive. Despite him being sentenced to a life of solitary confinement, Teddy is an amazingly sweet, social, and friendly boy who deserves to live in a home with human beings and doggy friends.

Noel and Weasley are 9 month old littermates who were not being cared for. They came from the trailer park in Ecorse and the residents there said they were tied up to a pole and just left. Everyone knows who everyone is there so that’s how we were able to know their names and their ages. 

Tomorrow they will be going to our friends at The PAWS Clinic for their spay and vaccines.

Let’s share and find these sweet girls a home.

Because thanks to our very favorite groomer who always makes time to squeeze in a Shelter dog. This is no easy task to groom this breed, but Crystal made time today, and at no charge to the shelter.

Our sweet Ragamuffin Apricot is looking and feeling so much better. Crystal said she had a ton of burrs in her fur and even some older wounds that could have come from someone knicking her with scissors while trying to groom her at home. Grooming is not cheap!

We would like to remind everyone again that when you choose a dog like a golden doodle, you are choosing a dog that needs continuous and routine grooming. To allow them to go without careful professional grooming is can lead to neglect. They are a high maintenance breed, and if you are not prepared to provide this care for them, then please do them a favor and don’t go buying doodle puppies.

Meet Bram. He’s the sweetest and most playful teeny bopper. When he’s not tossing his fuzzy meeces around, he loves being held, and his purrs are non stop!

We are making arrangements for Bram to be neutered and he will be available for adoption.

Well, they’ve done it again! Team Wade and her 4 legged friends stopped by today w an amazing monetary donation from limited edition Tie Dye shirts that they created and sold. A whopping $519.00 AND some fantastic supplies that we are already putting to great use!

These guys never stop working for the welfare of the animals, and we are grateful to be the recipients so often of their hard work, and village of good doers.

Our trio of kittens are enjoying their new toys. ❤️🐾

Meet Edgar, Allen, and Poe. They are three sweet little kittens who are putting MACHINES!

They were brought in last week from Ecorse.

We will be making arrangements for them to go to the Paws clinic where they can all be neutered and vaccinated (thanks to your donations). We would love if someone wanted to step up to foster them through one of our Rescue partners.
