Yesterday, our members participated in the annual Tunnel to Towers 5K in New York City, honoring the bravery and sacrifice of FDNY Firefighter Stephen Siller and all those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

Along the way, our members had the opportunity to meet and connect with fellow firefighters from across the country and around the world.

We are proud to take part in this incredible event and continue the promise to never forget.

Earlier today, the River Vale Fire Department responded to Sunny Hill Terrace after a concrete seepage tank collapsed beneath a large crane truck, causing the truck to overturn and the boom to fall onto two neighboring homes.

Firefighters immediately secured the area, evacuated the affected residence, and safely rescued a cat from inside. Due to the complexity of the incident, multiple heavy-duty wreckers and an additional crane were brought in to stabilize the overturned truck and boom. PSE&G secured power to the affected residence and relocated power lines to allow recovery operations to proceed safely.

After an extensive stabilization operation, recovery crews used cutting torches to separate the boom into sections while firefighters provided continuous fire protection and safety standby. During the cutting operation, firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire that developed on scene. Crews then began the process of uprighting and removing the truck.

Thank you to PSE&G, the police department, the recovery crews, and all personnel helping on scene. The Fire Department is now approaching 6 hours on scene.

The topic of tonight's drill was First Due Engine Company Operations. 53 Engine 1 and 53 Squad both did evolutions of rolling response on Beechcrest Drive, which included safely driving to the scene, hooking up to a hydrant, stretching a line, calling for water, and going on air. Just after the drill's debrief, the department got paged out for an oven fire a block away from the drill, and arrived on scene within seconds. The fire was contained to the oven, and firefighters helped the homeowner clean up a glass container which exploded in the kitchen.
