What would make the Community Center your go-to spot?

The City will begin running the Riverside Community Center when the YMCA hands off operations on January 1, 2027. We want your input as we plan the programs, classes, and activities that come next. The survey only takes a few minutes, and your answers will help shape what the Community Center offers our residents and neighbors.

A few things to know about the transition:

✅ Pool access stays the same with season and day passes.
✅ The Healthy Living Program continues for Riverside residents and still covers 75% of YMCA membership fees. You can also use it at the Gladstone Community Center.
✅ YMCA memberships will no longer grant access to the Riverside Community Center starting January 1, 2027. Current members can keep their membership to use any YMCA of Greater Kansas City location.
✅ Activity offerings may be limited in early 2027, but exciting things are on the way!

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT: Meet Keith Payne, Fire Marshal for the City of Riverside and the City’s first full-time firefighter.

Keith started his career in law enforcement, where he eventually moved into fire investigation. When he came to Riverside 22 years ago, the City operated as a public safety department, with officers trained to handle both police and fire. That chance to do both jobs is part of what drew him here. When the City split the two departments, Keith accepted an offer to join the fire side full time, officially becoming the City’s first full-time firefighter.

Thank you to everyone who came out to Trunk or Treat + Carved on Saturday night! 🎃

Kids filled their buckets with candy at the trunks in front of City Hall, families trick-or-treated through the fire bay, and the fun kept going at Renner Brenner Park after dark.

A huge thank you goes to the volunteers, local businesses and organizations, City staff, police officers, firefighters, and public works crews who made the night possible. We also appreciate everyone who came out for Carved, since a portion of its proceeds supports Build Trybe, a Cornerstones of Care program for local youth.

The temporary repair for the Burlington Creek Bridge on the Missouri Riverfront Trail is moving from planning to construction!

Platte County will start accepting bids from contractors next week to fix the erosion around the bridge. The damage has kept Zone 1 of the trail closed since this summer. Bids are due November 5, and crews are set to start work November 17. The County expects to finish the temporary repairs by February 28, 2027, weather permitting.

Zone 1 will stay closed until the repairs are complete, so please continue to avoid the closed section for your safety. We’ll keep sharing updates as work gets underway.

Thank you for your patience while we work with Platte County to get this stretch of trail back open!
