This National Public Works Week, we recognize the dedicated teams who keep Riverside running every day, and who’ve stepped up to support our emergency response to the Bain Fire. From maintaining critical infrastructure to paving new roads, Public Works is essential to the safety and quality of life of our community.

We’re also proud to celebrate new leadership in the department with Public Works Director Nathan Mustafa and Deputy Director Chris Scully. Together, their leadership will help continue building a stronger, safer, and more resilient Riverside.

There was so much to celebrate at last week’s Southern California Association of Governments (S**G) General Assembly! I’m honored to have been elected by my peers to serve as S**G’s 2nd Vice President—an opportunity to help bring critical resources to our region.

I’m also incredibly proud of our Public Works team for earning top honors for “Outstanding Achievement in Sustainability” for their Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) Mitigation Bank Pilot Program. This innovative program streamlines project approvals and ensures cost certainty while creating a dedicated funding source for citywide infrastructure improvements that enhance safety, reduce emissions, and expand multimodal access.

Riverside is bringing opportunity home.

We had the pleasure of hosting Accelerator for America (AFA), who brought mayors from across the country from Phoenix to Nashville to learn the how cities are addressing our most pressing challenges. Through our partnership with AFA, we’re turning big ideas into real progress, from clean transportation to inclusive economic growth. We’re proud to be one of just 10 cities nationwide to have been selected to participate in AFA’s Innovative Infrastructure Initiative, helping advance Riverside’s work in sustainability and innovation. Through partnerships like this, we’re continuing to build a stronger, more connected future for our community.🏠👥

I was proud to join Chaevi and SPT for their MOU signing last month! Their agreement sets the stage for what they envision as the nation’s first integrated hydrogen production, refueling, and EV charging station—right here in our city.

This partnership reflects the power of global collaboration, bold vision, and cutting-edge technology coming together to shape the next generation of energy.

I am proud to announce a new partnership that brings together leaders in business, education, and innovation to advance green technology, workforce development, and new opportunities for investment.

Last week, we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with LADEC, Ltd. (Lahti Region Development) of Finland, launching collaboration focused on innovation and economic opportunity.

Partnerships like this help attract investment, support our workforce, and connect Riverside to the global innovation economy. We are looking forward to new opportunities for our local business community!
