Riverside Police Department’s Problem Oriented Policing (POP) officers work directly in the neighborhoods they serve.

When POP officers encounter someone experiencing homelessness, they start with communication. They take the time to understand the situation, determine what’s needed, and connect people with available resources.

From responding to concerns to building relationships with residents, businesses, and people experiencing homelessness, POP works to create safer, healthier, and more livable neighborhoods across Riverside.

Donnie has called Riverside home his entire life. At 70 years old, he never expected to experience homelessness. After years of paying rent on the same apartment, one increase put it out of reach, leaving him with nowhere to go but his car.

Through the City of Riverside's outreach team, Path of Life, and ongoing case management, Donnie found more than a roof over his head. He found stability, hope, and a team that continues to help him stay housed.

The Riverside City Council has unanimously appointed Lori K. M. Cox as the City's first Inspector General, a new Charter officer position created after Riverside voters approved Measure L in 2024.

In this independent role, Ms. Cox will oversee audits, investigations, and whistleblower programs designed to strengthen accountability, transparency, and public trust across City government.
