Fans Don't Let Fans Drive Drunk
The most exciting day for American football fans lies ahead this weekend! Did you know that almost half (46%) of traffic deaths on America's biggest Game Day are related to alcohol impairment? https://shorturl.at/vyFPU
At Safe Routes for All, we see this as a reminder of our collective commitment to empower communities by sharing preventative messaging that sparks change and saves lives.
There are actions everyone can take to prevent traffic crashes without dampening the enjoyment of the Super Bowl Sunday experience. Impairment starts with the first drink. The smartest action you can take is to separate drinking from driving.
š Make a plan before you head to a Super Bowl party, so you have a safe way to get home.
š If youāre hosting a party, check in with your guests to verify they have a sober ride home before they start drinking.
š Be prepared to offer your guests a place to stay overnight if no sober ride is available.
š Have the contact for a taxi or rideshare service on hand.

People are human and will inevitably make mistakes that can lead to crashes. But the transportation system must be designed and operated to accommodate those mistakes and avoid death and serious injuries.
09/20/2022
We are vulnerable and we have our limits. The faster you drive, the more at risk other people on the road are in the event of a crash. Safety is the goal.
09/15/2022
When we walk or bike, we are vulnerable. Reducing driving speeds reduces the chances of serious injuries and provides more time for drivers to stop.
09/13/2022
Letās face it. Deaths and serious injuries on roads should not be a part of everyday life. Zero is the goal. One death is one too many.

May is ! This is a time to support, encourage, and celebrate all things bicycling. The best way to celebrate Bike Month is to simply bike: ride to school, ride to the park or just take a ride to soak up the sun.
But we want everyone to ride their bike safely, especially with their children. Parents are the #1 influencers, and it is important to model safe and responsible behaviors for children. So please take this time to teach your kiddos the importance of wearing a helmet while riding a bike.
According to Safe Kids Worldwide, in 2014 more than 240,000 children and teens under the age of 19 were seen in emergency rooms for bike related injuries. The most serious injury that can occur is a brain injury. Just to put into perspective how prevalent traumatic brain injuries related to bicycle riding is: 26,000 visit the emergency room every year!
Fortunately, helmets reduce the risk of head injury by at least 45%, brain injury by 33%, and fatal injury by 29%.
For that reason alone, all riders- including adults- should wear a helmet! Not only is this the safest option but it is the law in California, anyone under the age of 18, must wear a helmet.
