UPDATE 6:00 PM, 5/29:
Two individuals were transported to local hospitals. Tragically, one fatality has been confirmed in the garage.

Goodman Incident
At approximately 4:15 p.m. on May 29, 2026, Riverside Fire Department crews responded to a residential garage fire at 4290 Goodman Street. The fire extended from the garage into the residence, with heavy fire conditions encountered in the attic.
Firefighters are actively engaged in fire attack, primary search, and treating fire victims.
Please avoid the area and use alternate routes to allow emergency personnel to work safely and efficiently.

Iowa Incident Update (3 PM, 5/29)
Fire crews continue to make significant progress on the multi-alarm apartment fire in the area of Iowa Ave. & University Ave. The spread of the fire has been mitigated.
At this time:
• 50 units have been destroyed
• 62 units were saved
• Approximately 150 people have been displaced
Crews will continue working through the night and into tomorrow to extinguish remaining hotspots. Due to extensive fire and water damage, portions of the building’s interior are beginning to collapse.
Please continue to avoid the area as crews remain on scene.

At approximately 11:13 a.m., multiple fire crews responded to a multi-alarm structure fire in the area of Iowa Ave. & University Ave. Mutual aid resources are assisting crews currently on scene.
An evacuation center has been established at the Stratton Community Center at Bordwell Park (2008 Martin Luther King Blvd.) for residents impacted by the incident.
Please avoid the area to allow emergency personnel to respond safely and efficiently. More updates will be shared as information becomes available.

Our fire inspectors will be visiting neighborhoods to ensure homes meet the requirements of City Ordinance 6.16 regarding defensible space and hazardous vegetation. All evacuation orders and warnings related to the Bain Fire within the City of Riverside have been lifted. Residents may now safely return home. Residents may continue to see or smell drift smoke in the area due to lingering activity.
Fire crews will remain in the area over the coming days to support cleanup efforts and monitor for safety. Please continue using caution while traveling through affected neighborhoods.
