I’m excited to share that students from Mr. Gerren’s class and the MLK Wellness Peer Educators Club participated in the Youth Creating Change Film Contest, focused on mental health and su***de prevention.
In the Mental Health Matters category, MLK stood out, all three selected county videos were from our students. Congratulations to Jocelyn Harris, Erin Park, and Vivian Dasson, whose film “Learning to Breathe Again” earned 1st Place! 🎉 MLK students also received several honorable mentions.
Thank you for supporting our Wellness Peer Educators, our students were incredibly proud. Please enjoy the photos and winning video below.

Martin Luther King HS PTSA’s Sherri Powers Scholarship Applications are due May 6th, 2026, in person to Mrs. Ortega in the fishbowl, or by email to [email protected]. Winners will be selected by May 13th, and scholarship recipients will receive their awards at Senior Awards Night on May 20th. Good luck Class of 2026!

Riverside Council PTA hosted its annual Carol Rude Scholarship & Awards Ceremony at the RCOE Conference Center, honoring high school seniors and RUSD PTA units across elementary, middle, and high schools for the tremendous work they do supporting their schools. Martin Luther King HS was represented well with winners in several categories:
Fernando Fernandez, Campus Supervisor, won Classified Employee of the Year (HS), Farrah Stewart, MLKHS PTSA's 2nd VP of Membership was awarded Volunteer of the Year (HS), and two graduating seniors, Holly Guerrero and Raelynne Brinkle, were awarded Carol Rude Scholarships. Also, our very own Julie Zelaya, was also recognized as Earhart's volunteer of the year!!!
Congratulations to everyone, and thank you all for the tremendous work you do!!
