Riverton firefighters along with one member from Pleasant Valley and our district daytime driver visited Barkhamsted Elementary School for fire prevention education. This visit happens every year and allows us an opportunity to teach children about the dangers of fire and not to be afraid of firefighters while wearing our protective equipment. The students also received stop drop and roll demonstrations from Kenna

Riverton firefighters were generously offered the use of the haunted house at White Pines for this evening’s training. Our firefighters paired up with junior and probationary members to work through several search and SCBA confidence evolutions in a dark, smoke-filled environment.

Training like this gives our newer members an opportunity to become comfortable working in SCBA while learning basic search techniques alongside experienced firefighters, preparing them to attend firefighter 1 in the future. A huge thank you to White Pines Campsites for giving us a great space to train!
