Human trafficking didn’t start with Jeffrey Epstein.
It didn’t start in the shadows.
It didn’t start with private jets, islands, or sealed court documents.
It started centuries ago — in plain sight.
The transatlantic slave trade was the first global human trafficking network.
Men, women, and children were commodified.
Bodies were capital.
Lives were inventory.
And suffering became infrastructure.
Banks were built to finance it.
Universities were built to legitimize it.
Governments were built to protect it.
Industries were built to expand it.
Empires were built to normalize it.
And all of it sat on stolen Indigenous land — land taken through displacement, genocide, broken treaties, and violence. Two systems of theft fused into one economy:
• stolen bodies
• stolen land
This is the foundation of the modern world.
So when people talk about Epstein like he was an anomaly —
like he was a glitch —
like he was a lone monster —
they’re missing the point.
He wasn’t a glitch.
He was a product.
A continuation of a system that has always existed.
A modern expression of an old structure.
The same logic:
• dehumanization
• commodification
• exploitation
• protection of elites
• silence through power
• profit through suffering
Different era.
Same blueprint.
Human trafficking today isn’t separate from history —
it’s the evolution of it.
The chains changed.
The language changed.
The branding changed.
The methods changed.
But the system didn’t.
And the truth is uncomfortable:
Modern institutions weren’t just “present” during slavery —
they were built by it.
Funded by it.
Stabilized by it.
Legitimized by it.
Protected by it.
That legacy didn’t disappear.
It compounded.
It accumulated.
It scaled.
It went global.
This isn’t about guilt.
It’s about truth.
It’s about continuity.
It’s about structures.
It’s about systems, not just individuals.
Because you can’t dismantle what you refuse to name.
And you can’t heal from what you refuse to acknowledge.
If this made you uncomfortable — good.
Discomfort is where awareness starts.
Awareness is where accountability starts.
Accountability is where change starts.
This isn’t history.
This is now.
This is ongoing.
This is connected.
And silence only protects the system.
