Last night, just after 11:30 PM, we were alerted for mutual aid to a structure fire in the Valley Volunteer Fire Department’s first-due area.

E22 responded with a crew of three and assisted with fire suppression and extensive overhaul operations.

After several hours on scene, crews cleared and returned to the station, going back in service a little after 3:00 AM.

🚒Valley VFD along with numerous other departments in the county are currently out operating on a working structure fire in the City of Pleasant Valley down Brick hill road. 🚒

Just before 4:00 AM this morning, Baxter VFD was alerted for a motor vehicle accident with entrapment on Paw Paw Creek Road near Durham Lane.

Rescue 24 responded shortly after and was advised that a pickup truck had gone over the hillside, leaving the driver trapped inside. Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle suspended on the hillside, with only a small tree preventing it from rolling farther down the embankment.

Firefighters quickly assisted the driver from the vehicle, and used a rope to safely bring him back up the hillside. Fortunately, the driver was not injured. He was evaluated by EMS at the scene but declined further treatment and transport.

We'd like to remind everyone to slow down, stay alert, and always wear your seatbelt. Thank you to all responding personnel for another safe and successful outcome.

Vehicle Accident on Paw Paw Creek Road

This morning, just after 8:30 a.m., Baxter VFD was alerted for a vehicle accident near 3084 Paw Paw Creek Road. Rescue 24 and Unit 21 responded shortly after dispatch.

Upon arrival, crews found a coal truck that had gone through the guardrail and overturned onto its passenger side. A lone tree prevented the truck from rolling completely over and continuing further down the hillside. Fortunately, the driver escaped injury and was shaken up but otherwise unharmed.

The truck was hauling a load of ash from the Grant Town Power Plant. Due to damage to utility infrastructure, the roadway remained closed for an extended period while MonPower removed a utility pole and lines to allow wreckers access to safely recover the truck.

Agencies assisting on scene included Baxter VFD, Rivesville VFD, Grant Town EMS, the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Marion County OES, WVDOT, WVDOH, WVDEP, Hillbilly Towing, MonPower, and Frontier.

Once the vehicle was removed and the scene was stabilized, EnviroClean was brought in to handle cleanup of the spilled ash and any fluids released from the truck.

We would like to thank all responding agencies for their assistance and cooperation throughout this incident. Please remember to slow down, stay alert, and use caution when approaching emergency scenes.

Our units are back in station, however the road will remain closed for an extended time per WVDOH. This is to allow them to make repairs to the hillside and guardrail where the truck went over. There are signs up at Woods Run Rd and near the Main St intersection in Rivesville. You will need to find an alternate route. DO NOT go around the signs, they will have trucks and heavy equipment blocking the road, you will not be able to get through.

The road will be closed in the area of 3084 Paw Paw Creek Rd for an extended period of time due to a vehicle accident. No traffic will be able to get through, please plan ahead or use an alternate route.
