It was an honor and a privilege to welcome Cub Scout Pack 157! Watching these young minds light up as they explored our station, learned about our mission, and got a glimpse of life in the U.S. Coast Guard was truly inspiring.

Today, we bid farewell to one of the finest. Over the last three years, ME3 Ritchie has not only proven his skill and dedication but has grown into a remarkable asset to our team and our mission. His commitment to excellence, resilience in the face of challenges, and unwavering dedication to safeguarding our shores have made an indelible impact on our service and all who have served alongside them.

As ME3 Ritchie embarks on this next chapter, we know he’ll carry forward the values and spirit that define our Coast Guard. ME3 Ritchie thank you for your exceptional service and your friendship. The crew seized the opportunity to embrace the shifting sea conditions, using the power of the ocean to refine our skills and sharpen our readiness for the next mission. Every swell and surge was a chance to deepen our seamanship and reinforce our preparedness for the challenges we may face on the horizon.

Our crews, joined by the steadfast crews of MSST Kings Bay and MSST New York, recently set ashore on a critical mission to aid the crew and local families devastated by the destructive tornadoes spawned by Hurricane Milton. While the path to full recovery is long, it was an honor to rally together and clear the wreckage left in the storm's wake. The resilience of the community echoes our own commitment to weathering any storm.

The Captain of the Port has set port condition X-RAY as of yesterday, Oct. 6. Port condition YANKEE is anticipated to be set by 6:00 P.M. today, based on National Hurricane Center forecast.

In anticipation for inclement weather from Hurricane , here are a few tips for small craft owners …

1. Continue to monitor your local weather service and the National Hurricane Center (https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ ).

2. Stay off the water until the storm has passed and local maritime law enforcement has deemed it safe to resume recreational boating activities.

3. If your boat can be trailered, strongly consider taking it out of the water and storing it in a safe location at least 50 miles outside of the forecasted storm path.

4. If your boat cannot be trailered, adhere to any evacuation mandates.

5. If your leaving your boat in the water, make sure to secure all hatches and clear the deck of hazardous and flammable materials.

6. Take into consideration that as wind speeds and water levels increase, draw bridges may be closed.

7. Be sure you’re familiar with the area you are moving your boat to so you may transit safely.

8. To avoid unintentionally signaling the need for rescue. remove your EPIRB from the vessel.

9. Boaters in need of help should use VHF-FM Marine Radio Channel 16 or call 911.

10. DO NOT use social media as a means for requesting U.S. Coast Guard assistance.
