The Roachdale Police Department has seen recent comments and concerns about traffic stops for issues such as license plate lights, obstructed plates, and stop sign violations. As a small, close-knit community, we believe it’s important to explain why these stops occur and what our intent is.

Our officers are required by law to enforce all traffic laws, even those that may seem minor. These laws exist for a reason—many are tied directly to visibility, accountability, and safety on our roads, especially in a rural area where lighting, farm equipment, and limited traffic controls already create added risks.

These stops are not meant to harass law-abiding citizens. In most cases, a stop for a minor violation results in a simple conversation and a warning. Often, drivers aren’t aware of the issue, and the goal is to bring it to their attention before it becomes a safety concern or leads to a more serious problem.

In a small town like Roachdale, a visible police presence matters. It helps deter crime, encourages safer driving, and shows that we are actively watching out for our neighbors and our community.

It’s also important to understand that routine traffic stops sometimes reveal more serious issues. During these encounters, officers may come across drivers who are unlicensed or suspended, have outstanding warrants, are operating uninsured vehicles, or are involved in other criminal activity. While these discoveries are not the reason for the initial stop, they are a lawful and necessary part of traffic enforcement.

The goal is not to create problems, but to prevent them and keep Roachdale safe for everyone.

We appreciate respectful conversation and understand that not everyone will agree with every enforcement decision.

If you have questions or concerns, we encourage you to contact the Roachdale Police Department directly through private message or by phone so we can address them appropriately.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to The Waters of Greencastle—especially Ms. Kelly Robertson—and Everwise Credit Union for helping make today so special. Your support truly means a great deal to us. We’re pretty sure our local fire departments noticed (and may be just a little jealous) of all the love law enforcement received today 😄. It’s moments like these that remind us how fortunate we are to serve such an incredible community.

🐾 Dog Tags = Happy Tails & Faster Reunions! 🐾

Just a friendly reminder from the Town of Roachdale 🐶

Town ordinance requires all dogs living within town limits to have a current Town-issued dog tag. Dog tags are valid for the calendar year and must be renewed each year.

💲 Dog Tag Fees:
• $5 per dog from January 1 – March 1
• $10 per dog after March 1

📄 Please complete the online application before stopping by the Town Office to pay the fee.

🐕 Why dog tags matter:
Dog tags help the Roachdale Police Department quickly identify and locate owners when dogs are found roaming outside their control. In many cases, a simple tag means a faster trip home and less stress for everyone — especially your four-legged friend!

⚠️ Failure to obtain a dog tag may result in fines of up to $500 per dog, so don’t let your pup be the only one on the block without proper ID.

Thanks for helping keep Roachdale safe, responsible, and pet-friendly! 🐾

Dog Tags Pursuant to Town of Roachdale Ordinance 91.16, all dogs residing within the Town limits are required to have a valid Town-issued dog tag.
