Have you heard there is a foster care crisis in Virginia?
There are over 5,000 kids currently in foster care. Over 1,400 are located in the Piedmont region of Virginia. Without an available foster home, children may find themselves having to stay in local DSS offices which lack the important amenities of a home environment, such as showers, home-cooked meals, and sometimes even a bed as they wait to find a foster family.

**November is still National Adoption Month**
No matter what stereotypes you may have heard, believed, or shared about adoption, just know that it's not about how you start, what your start looks like, or from whence you came...it's about what you do going forward.
Think about it, Superman was adopted :) Sometimes we don't even know the full potential of the person that we are taking in, all that we need to do is give love, support, and help them thrive and you never know what they will do or become.

We know not everyone that has a desire to help a youth in foster care is able to be a foster parent. However, there are still things that you can do to support these youth and their families. If you know a foster parent, ask them if they need assistance with transportation or maybe provide them with a meal. Maybe offer to mow their lawn from time to time. This enhances their ability to focus on the connection and attachment with the youth in their home or simply allows them time for self-care. Here are a few other ways to be of service:
