At 6:30 yesterday evening, Roanoke Fire was called to assist Huntington City Fire Department with a working commercial structure fire. Ladder 703 responded initially with a crew of 5 and Squad 708 with a crew of 4. Squad 708 provided additional waves of manpower throughout the night. When units arrived on scene, fire conditions continued to grow and eventually turned to defensive tactics due to the danger of the roof and floors being compromised. Huntington City Tower 4, Southwest Fire District Truck 57, and Ladder 703 continued to extinguish areas in the core of building from our aerials while multiple Huntington City and Roanoke firefighters worked with hand lines and deck guns from engines to slow the spread of the fire throughout the campus on the perimeter. Roanoke crews cleared the scene at roughly 2:00 this morning. Huntington City is still on scene at the time of this post.

We want to thank Huntington County Emergency Management for providing rehab and refreshments on scene as well as Markle Fire Department & Rescue and Bippus Volunteer Fire Department for standby coverage while our crews assisted the City.

At approximately 4:45 this afternoon, Roanoke Fire, Jefferson Center Fire Department, and Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department were called to a motor vehicle accident with injuries. Further updated information indicated one of the vehicles involved had caught fire as a result of the impact and was still occupied by the driver. Due to quick action of multiple passersby, the driver of the vehicle was freed and moved a safe distance away. Because of the nature of the incident, potential quantity of patients, and traffic volume, additional agencies from Allen County were also requested for assistance. Units remained on scene for an extended period of time rendering aid to all occupants involved, fire suppression efforts and restoring the roadway. With permission from each of the gentlemen that helped free the victim, a photo of them is attached. We want to thank these individuals for their efforts and hope for the best for all involved.

Just before 6:00 this morning, Roanoke Fire provided automatic aid to our Allen County Fire & EMS District- ACFD Mutual Aid partners for a confirmed structure fire. Ladder 703 provided a crew of 4 and Tanker 704, a crew of 1. Upon arrival, 703 was tasked with establishing a water supply to the 1000’ of large diameter hose forward laid by Southwest Fire District Engine 252. Once water supply was established, 703 split their crew and proceeded to the structure for interior fire attack on the second level. Ladder 703 pushed nearly 25,000 gallons of water to the attack engines over the course of the incident.

Other assisting crews were West Central Fire Protection District, 122nd Fighter Wing Air National Guard Fire, and Markle Fire Department & Rescue. Bippus Volunteer Fire Department provided infill coverage for us while crews were on scene. No injuries were sustained by crews on scene nor the homeowners and their pet.

Roanoke Fire is proud to support surrounding departments in incidents such as these because we know they will help us in return.

Earlier today we were called for a medical emergency on US 24. A family member was trying to get the patient to the hospital when the front tire on their vehicle blew. The patient was transported emergent by ambulance to the hospital and we changed out the blown tire with the spare tire so the family member could get to the hospital.

We were called to the town park for a rescue today. Yes the joke of firefighters rescuing cats from trees is true. But the cat was very thankful that we are willing to put up with the hazing to help her out of the tree.
