We are less than a week away from this year's Spooky Boo Spectacular and we can't wait to see you all there. Put on your best costume and get ready for a great time!

REMINDER: Spooky Boo Spectacular 10/31/2026 5PM-7PM

More than just a trunk-or-treat, Spooky Boo Spectacular provides families with a safe, welcoming environment to celebrate Halloween while building positive relationships with those who serve and support our community. Attendees can look forward to creatively decorated trunks filled with candy, a live DJ, costume contests, and plenty of activities for the entire family.

Guests can enjoy FREE hot dogs topped with our signature chili, chips, and a drink, while supplies last. The Sheriff's Office is encouraging businesses, churches, civic groups, organizations, and individuals to register as trunk participants. Bring your creativity, decorate your trunk, and compete for the coveted Best Decorated Trunk Trophy and a year's worth of bragging rights! Those unable to participate as a trunk can still make a difference by donating candy to help ensure every child enjoys a memorable evening.

💊 Clean out your medicine cabinet and help keep our community safe!

On Saturday, October 24, the Roanoke City Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with RAYSAC, will host a National Prescription Drug Take Back Day collection location at the Berglund Center.

If you’re attending The Blue Envelope & Beyond: A Community Conversation on Autism in the Berglund Hall from 9 a.m.– 1 p.m., or other events on site, take advantage of this opportunity to safely dispose of unused or expired medications. You can also stop by just to participate in the collection!

Help prevent medication misuse and accidental poisoning by keeping unwanted medications out of the wrong hands.

For National School Bus Safety Week, we’re bringing back our school friends to help reinforce a message worth repeating: keeping our children safe takes all of us!

Our back-to-school video shares reminders about school bus safety, bike safety, and crossing safely at crosswalks. Whether you’re behind the wheel, riding a bike, or walking to school, slow down, pay attention, and look out for one another.

You may recognize a few faces who have since moved on from our agency, but the safety message we shared together remains just as important today. 💛

CELEBRATING THE HEARTS BEHIND OUR MISSION!

Some of the most meaningful contributions to our agency come from individuals who willingly give of their time.

Recently, the Roanoke City Sheriff's Office had the pleasure of hosting our 2026 Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, recognizing the dedicated individuals and organizations who generously support our mission.

Whether serving inside our Detention Center through educational, faith-based, and rehabilitative programming or beyond our walls through community outreach, special events, and other initiatives, our volunteers play an essential role in the services we provide.

We were also proud to recognize Gene Edmonds as our 2026 Volunteer of the Year! This special recognition celebrates an individual whose dedication, generosity, and commitment to service exemplify the difference one person can make.

To every volunteer who shares their time, talents, and compassion with our agency, THANK YOU! Your contributions extend far beyond the hours you serve. You help create opportunities, strengthen relationships, and make a lasting difference in the lives of those we serve.

The Blue Envelope & Beyond: October 24, 2026, 9 AM- 1 PM, Berglund Center

This community-centered event will bring together individuals with autism, families, caregivers, educators, service providers, advocates, and public-safety personnel to share information, explore available resources, and strengthen relationships.

Attendees will have opportunities to connect with resource providers, hear from knowledgeable speakers and panelists, explore sensory-friendly activities, and learn about services involving education, employment, healthcare, family support, and more.

The event will also feature discussions about the Blue Envelope Program and interactive law enforcement scenarios designed to demonstrate how communication, patience, and understanding can contribute to safer, more positive encounters. The Sheriff's Office encourages law enforcement agencies, 911 personnel, and Fire/EMS professionals to participate, recognizing that building understanding before an emergency or interaction occurs benefits both responders and the individuals they serve.

In addition, the Sheriff's Office is pleased to partner with RAYSAC (Roanoke Area Youth Substance Abuse Coalition) in recognition of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. This collaboration will provide community members with an additional opportunity to learn about safe medication disposal and participate in drug take-back efforts while attending the event.
