What a year it has been! And we're just getting started. 🥳

Celebrate the Community Empowerment Center's first year, along with the launch of the Imagination Library of Roanoke City and Roanoke County, on Tuesday, July 7 from 3-5 p.m. as we host Imagine Roanoke: A Family Literacy Celebration! 🎉

Enjoy free books and ice cream, and meet with several community partners who will be in attendance to share about even more programs and services.

Congratulations to our inaugural Family Academy participants and staff! 🎉 We gathered tonight to celebrate a successful first year of classes. Many thanks to the teachers, staff, and community partners who made this possible, including Blue Ridge Literacy and the YMCA Express at Gainsboro.

Family Academy allows families to deepen their engagement with RCPS while building by skills in areas of their choice including literacy, digital literacy, financial literacy, math skills, citizenship, and more. 📚💻💰🇺🇸

We also want to shoutout our math coaches Jaime Barker and Robin Carpenter, who led Math Strategies for Parents! Four students participated in tutoring and enrichment alongside their parents and had a 100% pass rate on their math SOL! 🤓

This college-preparation course focuses on developing strong academic reading and writing skills. It also includes engaging learning experiences such as field trips to Virginia Western Community College and health literacy workshops at Radford University Carilion.

Family Welding Night is back! 🔥

The next Family Welding Night will be held on Monday, May 18 from 5-9 p.m. at Charles W. Day Technical Education Center. Learn the basics of welding, create something you can take home, and explore what welding has to offer as a CTE course or even a career!
