I’ve been a little under the weather this week so I haven’t got to post about it yet, but congratulations to the Friends of Evans Spring!

4 years ago when we first started organizing against this second attempt to gentrify this part of NW Roanoke, I was told “The deal was already done…”

Through community meetings at churches, candidate forums, knocking on doors, speaking at city council meetings and more this group worked tirelessly to fight back against large scale commercialization that would’ve increased property taxes 🏡, increased electricity ⚡️ bills, and ultimately forced our elders out of the neighborhoods they built!

FEDUP is preparing for our **“THEY Had a Dream” Memorial Walk** on the MLK Memorial Bridge, where we will honor lives lost to gun violence right here in the Roanoke Valley on Friday, June 5, 2026.

We are inviting families and loved ones to **submit photos of those you’ve lost** so they can be included in this powerful visual memorial. Each photo represents a life, a story, a dream that mattered.
