We listen but we are judging (a little) when it comes to planting a single species versus a diverse variety. Here are a few reasons a diverse native blend is better than a single species (often non-native):
🪾If disease hits, it can wipe out a monoculture.
🌱Native grasses are more drought tolerant. They may turn off in July but they will be back and ready to rock in the spring.
🌻Livestock and wildlife need diversity for forage needs and cover.
🐝Diverse grass=diverse wildlife and pollinators. Wildlife need different grasses for forage, some for fawning cover, and nesting.

NOTICE: There is currently a quarantine in place due to an established New World Screwworm Infested Zone in parts of the following Texas counties: Coke, Edwards, Gillespie, Kerr, Kimble, La Salle, Sutton, Tom Green, Uvalde, Val Verde, Webb, Zavala.

According to the Executive Director Orders issued, all warm-blooded animals in a zone may not move out of the zone without prior authorization from the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC).

Warm-blooded animals moving outside of an infested zone must contact the TAHC to set up an inspection. During this inspection, an animal health official will fill out an animal movement certificate listing the product used for prevention or treatment and the animals' official ID. This certificate will need to accompany the animal movement.

Erin Oleksiuk, district technician, hosted story time this morning at the beautiful Coke County Library. The book Real Cowboys was read; kiddos learned that real cowboys are quiet, kind, patient, take care of the land and each other. Then the group made their own cowboy hats! Be sure to pop in the library to grab some books to enjoy during hot afternoons! And don't forget real cowboys read!

Through Ben's guidance and patience, many districts across West Texas have benefited from his knowledge and resources. Happy retirement, it's been well earned.

After more than 26 years of dedicated service to the TSSWCB, Ben Wilde is celebrating his retirement! 🎉 As an Area II Field Representative, Ben faithfully served Texas conservation districts, providing guidance, support, and leadership that made a lasting impact on both the agency and the communities he worked alongside. His commitment to conservation and the relationships he built throughout his career have left an enduring mark on the TSSWCB.

We are incredibly grateful for Ben's years of service and the contributions he made to advancing conservation across Texas. Please join us in congratulating him on this well-earned retirement and wishing him all the best in this exciting new chapter!
