🚒🔥 SPACE HEATER SAFETY REMINDER 🔥🚒
As cooler temperatures move into our area, the Styx River Volunteer Fire Department would like to remind everyone to practice fire safety when using space heaters to keep their homes warm.
⚠️ SPACE HEATER SAFETY TIPS ⚠️
✅ Keep a 3-foot safety zone! Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from furniture, curtains, bedding, clothing, and anything that can burn.
✅ Plug directly into the wall! NEVER plug a space heater into an extension cord, power strip, or surge protector. These can overheat and cause a fire.
✅ Never leave heaters unattended! Always turn off space heaters when leaving a room or going to bed.
✅ Keep children and pets away! Space heaters can become extremely hot and cause serious burns.
✅ Place heaters on a flat, stable surface! Never place them on furniture, beds, or other surfaces where they could tip over.
✅ Inspect before use! Check power cords and plugs for damage. Never use a heater with frayed wires or signs of overheating.
✅ Check your smoke alarms! Make sure working smoke alarms are installed throughout your home and test them regularly.
🚨 REMEMBER: Heating equipment is a leading cause of home fires during the colder months. A few simple precautions can prevent a devastating fire.
