Eastern Iowa Firefighters: The Instructor 1 course is a natural progression of firefighters teaching what they know to the next generation. Did you know the NFPA requires an Instructor 2 at live fire trainings? You can’t be a 2 without being a 1. The Instructor 1 is being offered locally. You can sign up in your Acadis account at the link below.

Thanks to Darrah’s towing and recovery for helping your firefighters practice extrication techniques. Darrah’s donated vehicles and their property for our crews to drill with. Our crews used various tools in our rescue arsenal to stabilize and disassemble vehicles, roll dashes and peel roofs. We used hydraulic cutters spreaders and a ram along with various saws, prying and striking tools to achieve both methodical and rapid extrication techniques.

Last night at our staff meeting The Robins Civic club awarded RFD with a check for $2000 they raised for us. It means the world to know we have the support of our citizens we are sworn to serve. YOUR Firefighters/EMTS and Paramedics are deeply grateful for the support. Donations like these help us fund equipment, educational materials, and training tools that don’t always fit into the budget.

We may not have a “trunk” for the Robins Civic Club trunk or treat on October 25th from 3-4 but word has it the haunted Fire truck we DO have is quite popular. our crews know how to have a little fun when the situation calls for it. Sparky and the crew will see you there!

October is busy month around our firehouse with our crews doing fire safety presentations at Little Leaners and Westfield Elementary. Then a visit from an area preschool followed by several trunk or treats later this month.

25 years ago we, like the rest of our nation, were shocked at the level of depravity and indifference to life this day brought. What we were not surprised by was our brothers and sisters running toward the gates of hell itself. They gave what President Lincoln called the last full measure of devotion. They did what firefighters do…stand between those in need and danger.
The fire service mourns their loss and we that stand watches across our nation 2 1/2 decades later take up their gauges and honor their memory and sacrifice for others this day…and all days.
