A huge THANK YOU from the Rochester Fire Protection District!

We would like to recognize Dave Jostes and Jostes Garage, Inc. here in Rochester for their continued support of our department.

Dave has generously helped transport vehicles to and from Neville’s Auto Salvage in Springfield to our firehouse, providing our members with the vehicles we need for hands-on training during our educational training nights.

These training opportunities are incredibly valuable and allow our members to practice real-world skills so we can be better prepared when our community needs us most.

We sincerely appreciate Dave, Jostes Garage, Inc., and Neville’s Auto Salvage for helping make this training possible. Your generosity and support of our department do not go unnoticed.

RFPD members trained tonight on a vehicle extrication scenario involving victims trapped between two vehicles.

Crews worked together to safely stabilize the vehicles, assess and manage the simulated crush injuries, and carefully extricate the victims from the entrapment.

Scenarios like this allow our members to practice critical skills, communication, and teamwork in a controlled environment—helping prepare our crews for complex rescue situations when every second counts.

Today, members of the Rochester Fire Protection District participated in Active Shooter Rescue Task Force training in Springfield alongside the Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) and LETAC.

This specialized training gives our members the opportunity to strengthen critical skills while working side-by-side with law enforcement agencies from across Sangamon County.

In high-risk situations, communication, coordination, and teamwork between fire/EMS and law enforcement are essential. Training together helps ensure that when the unthinkable happens, we are prepared to respond as one team with one mission — protecting and saving lives.

RFPD remains committed to continued training, strong partnerships, and being prepared to serve our community when it matters most.

The Rochester Fire Protection District is proud to announce that Carter Kits™ Sensory Bags are officially added to its emergency vehicles to better assist individuals with autism, ADHD, sensory processing needs, or those experiencing severe anxiety or trauma during emergencies.

Each kit includes items such as weighted blankets, noise-canceling headphones, sensory toys and fidgets, and communication boards. These tools can help reduce anxiety, minimize sensory overload, and improve communication during stressful emergency situations.

RFPD personnel have received guidance on using the kits during medical calls, accidents, fires, and other emergencies. The addition of Carter Kits™ reflects the department’s commitment to providing compassionate, inclusive, and effective emergency care for every member of the community.
