🎙️🎙️In honor of National Latino HIV/AIDS Awareness Day Action Front Center and Father Tracy Advocacy Center will be having a testing event today October 16th from 11 am - 2 pm at Father Tracy Advocacy Center 821 North Clinton Ave Rochester, NY 14605. Come learn about HIV/STI prevention, and/or get tested for HIV and STI's. Food will be provided along with some giveaways to individuals who participate in the program. 🎙️🎙️October 15th is National Latino HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. A time to acknowledge the impact of HIV/AIDS on Hispanic/Latino communities across the United States. HIV continues to disproportionately affect Hispanic/Latino communities. Although Hispanic/Latino individuals represent about one-fifth of the total U.S. population, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data shows they accounted for nearly one-third (12,860) of new HIV diagnoses in 2024. Today, we invite not only Hispanic/Latino communities, but all communities and individuals across every background to take action by getting tested, in whichever way works best for you. , , , , , ,

🎙️🎙️October 19-25 is PrEP Aware Week. African American Men Who Have S*x With Men and African American Women among the most impacted by new HIV occurrences. African Americans are also the lowest ethnicity of people taking PrEP. If you have multiple partners and/or you don't use protection when having s*xual encounters where there is a risk of getting HIV, you are a prime candidate to bring PrEP. Talk to your medical provider about beginning PrEP today!! , , , , ,

🎙🎙October 11th is National Coming Out Day. Sometimes this can be a very painful experience for people who don't define themselves as heteros*xual. Many have lost friends and family members that have shunned them because of their disclosure. This can lead to a life of survival s*x and/or a su***de attempt. As a society we need to be more understanding of a person's s*xual preference. If someone has the courage to disclose their s*xual preference to you, listen don't judge. Even if you feel uncomfortable, acknowledge the courage of the person speaking to you. You might be the person who keeps them from doing something very harmful to themself.

🎙️🎙️ October is LGBTQ History Month in the United States. It began in 1994, initiated by Missouri high-school teacher Rodney Wilson. October was selected in part because National Coming Out Day is October 11. It is separate from LGBTQ Pride Month, which is observed in June. Throughout the month I will be posting on LGBTQ history. Bayard Rustin was a major figure in the African American civil-rights movement who worked with Martin Luther King Jr. and was involved with the 1963 March on Washington. His papers also document advocacy involving gay rights, international human rights and social reform. Harvey Milk was an American politician and gay rights activist, the first openly gay man elected to public office in California, winning a seat on San Francisco’s Board of Supervisors in 1977.
