Play can happen anywhere. Rolling trucks, stacking blocks, sorting socks or pretending can all help young children learn and practice new skills.

Give your child time to explore, repeat activities and discover their own ways to play. Follow their interests and watch for their cues when they need a break or a new activity.

Looking for a fun place to play? The Family Support Team will be at the 3rd Annual Boo-Nanza at Boundless in Rochester on Friday, October 30 from 5-8 p.m. Come dressed up for free indoor trick-or-treating with local partners.

Halloween can be fun, but some costumes, decorations and stories can feel scary to young children.

If your child is worried, listen and acknowledge their feelings. Talk about what they might see or hear, let them ask questions and give them choices when possible. You can also practice calming together with slow breaths.

Try pretending to be butterflies: breathe in slowly while raising your arms like wings, then breathe out as you lower them.

The Family Support Team can help families with parenting support, child development and connections to community resources. https://www.olmstedcounty.gov/residents/services-individuals-families/child-youth/parenting-resources

Fact vs. Fiction: Who Can Vote?

FICTION: Everyone with a Minnesota driver’s license can vote.

FACT: Having a driver’s license does not determine voter eligibility.

Voter registration is verified through multiple sources and processes. When registering, voters must swear under oath that they are eligible to vote. Registration information is also compared with government records to help verify voter information.

If information cannot be verified, a voter’s record may be challenged and additional steps are required.

The 2026 General Election is November 3. Learn more about elections and voting on our website: https://www.olmstedcounty.gov/residents/elections-and-voting
