Exploring Future Careers at Mayo Clinic!

What does your future career look like? For 50 Century High School students, attending Mayo Clinic’s High School Career Festival was an opportunity to explore that question firsthand.

Our students stepped beyond the classroom to participate in hands-on activities, discover career possibilities, and connect directly with professionals from a variety of fields. They learned about educational pathways, workplace skills, and the many roles that contribute to Mayo Clinic’s mission.

One of the best parts of the experience came on the bus ride home, when students were already talking about specific careers that caught their interest. It was exciting to hear them reflect on what they experienced and consider new possibilities for their futures.

A special thank you to Mayo Clinic and all the professionals who took time out of their busy schedules to share their career journeys, answer students’ questions, and offer valuable insight into their fields. Your willingness to invest in the next generation makes a difference!

Way to go, Panthers, for exploring new possibilities and taking steps toward your futures.

Investing in our community’s future starts right here in our high school halls!

This week, our students took big steps toward their goals at the College Fairs held at our three big high schools. From exploring a wide range of post-secondary options to connecting directly with representatives, students gathered valuable insights and began visualizing themselves beyond high school.

Big questions. Tiny particles. Real-world research. 🔬

Microplastics and nanoplastics are almost invisible to the naked eye, but their potential impact on human health is a growing area of scientific interest. This semester, Century student Ayen Deng is exploring this emerging field through an internship at Mayo Clinic.

Under the guidance of Dr. Lisa Boardman, gastroenterologist and Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic , Ayen is investigating how these tiny plastic particles may interact with biological systems and what that could mean for gastrointestinal health.

For Ayen, this is an opportunity to step beyond textbooks and experience the curiosity, investigation, and discovery that drive biomedical research. Who knows where this experience might lead?

We are incredibly grateful to Dr. Boardman and Mayo Clinic for welcoming Ayen into this work and sharing their expertise with the next generation of researchers.

Opportunities like this take more than a school and a student. They take professionals who are willing to invest their time, share their knowledge, and give young people a meaningful seat at the table. That willingness to open doors can have an impact far beyond a single semester.

Thank you, Mayo Clinic, for helping our students explore what is possible and giving them experiences they can carry with them long after the internship ends.
