Thank you for visiting! The West Irondequoit Central School District is located in the Town of Irondequoit, a suburb of approximately 50,000 residents, which lies north of the city of Rochester in upstate New York. The district serves approximately 3600 students in six K-3 neighborhood schools, two 4-6 schools, a junior high school, and a senior high school. A nationally recognized high school AP program, recognition as one of the Best Communities for Music Education in America, a middle school named a Blue Ribbon School and another recognized as a Rewards School are evidence of a school community focused on learning and achievement. With tree-lined streets, direct access to the Genesee River and Lake Ontario, and to Seneca and Durand Eastman Parks, West Irondequoit is an ideal location to raise a family. Please note: This page is not intended to be used for personal attacks or comments regarding specific employees/students. Inaccurate information will be removed or replaced with factual information. As part of the Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration at Colebrook elementary, new Community Schools Coordinator Jomar Canales sat down with parent, Diego Heras to ask, “What does it mean to be Latino/Hispanic?” Mr. Heras has two children who attend Colebrook. “For me it has to do with the culture behind my heritage,” said Mr. Heras, who hails from Ecuador. “I wish everyone knew it’s more than we just all speak Spanish.” Students learned about traditions, foods, music, and the accomplishments of those from Hispanic and Latino cultures, including Sonia Sotomayor, Roberto Clemente, and Ellen Ochoa. “These people have helped make our world better through science, sports, music, art, and helping others,” Mr. Canales said. The pictures are of Colebrook students who helped with Hispanic Heritage Month presentations.

HANDS-ON LEARNING: Not only did Lindsay Klemmer’s Humanities class at Dake Jr. HS wrap up its American Civil War studies last week, but their teacher made good on a promise. Last year, she vowed to wear some of her “reenactment” clothing at school. “I can't believe they remembered,” Mrs. Klemmer said. Her family has been doing Civil War “reenacting” for many years, depicting the 28th NY volunteer infantry. So, she brought a typical uniform for the students to see in school and also donned a “day dress” to see what women used to wear. “It's one thing to read about history, but it's another to actually get your hands on it,” she said. 🎶CONGRATULATIONS! Current seventh-graders Jack Sherman and Caroline Woodson were honored last summer for their musical talent playing the flute and trumpet, respectively. Each summer the Irondequoit Concert Band, a community band led by West Irondequoit teaching alum and Eastman School of Music graduate, David Schantz, recognizes one student from each of the intermediate schools in the East and West Irondequoit school districts with the Outstanding Young Instrumental Musician Award. The students are chosen by the music educators at each of the four intermediate schools based on criteria established by the band. The students are then invited to play with the band.

IT'S NATIONAL SCHOOL BUS SAFETY WEEK! On behalf of our West Irondequoit CSD Transportation Department, we ask that you please take your time driving on and around our campuses and use caution every day (certainly not just this week). Thank you!

We also want to thank our terrific Transportation team, local crossing guards and our bus vendors, who all help make sure our students arrive to school and back home safely. Finally, thank you to you, our families! Remember - you can fill out any Transportation forms on our website, including Opt-Out forms if you're not using the bus this school. Knowing that helps routes run more efficiently. Go to our this webpage for more info: bit.ly/Transportation_WI

🎉 October is National Principals Month, and throughout the month we're proud to celebrate the outstanding leaders who help make the West Irondequoit CSD such a special place to learn and grow.

Today, we recognize Ms. Alicia Spitz, Principal at Brookview and Seneca elementary schools. She has a special way of bringing people together. With her bubbly personality, infectious enthusiasm and genuine love for working with children, she’s a magnet for students, families and staff alike! An Irondequoit native through and through, she brings hometown pride, heart and passion to everything she does.

Thank you, Ms. Spitz, for the joy, energy and dedication you bring to our schools and for making a difference in the lives of our youngest Eagles every day!
