Gates Firefighters IAFF Local 3792 The IAFF Local 3792 is the union that represents the professional firefighters of the town of Gates. We staff all three fire stations in the town.

The Gates Fire District is a combination fire department that operates three fire stations serving more than 20 square miles comprised of all of the Town of Gates and a portion of the Town of Chili. We border the west side of the City of Rochester and protect a population of roughly 32,000 people. Our district is heavily developed and contains large industrial complexes, including the Rochester Technology Park, refineries and oil storage, schools, nursing homes, rail lines and more miles of expressway than any other fire district in Monroe County. Our district also surrounds the Greater Rochester International Airport and borders both the Genesee River and the Erie Canal. Station 1 on Chili Avenue is staffed with Engine 4512 (2FF & 1 Officer), Truck 4510 (2FF & 1 Officer), Battalion Chief and a Dispatcher. Station 2 is located on the corner of Long Pond Rd & Spencerport Rd and is staffed with Engine 4522 (3 FF & 1 Officer). Station 3 on Coldwater Road is staffed with Truck 4530 (2FF & 1 Officer). The department also has a full time Fire Chief, Assistant Chief, Health and Safety Officer, and Training Officer. The firefighters and dispatchers of Local 3792 share a long association with the Gates Fire District. In the 1970’s, the first full time employees worked primarily as dispatchers and were called “laborers”. During this time, the call volume of the department increased while the population of the area began a steady growth. In 1985, the laborers actually began responding to fires and other incidents as firefighters while the number of volunteer firefighters began a slow and steady decline, and as the call volume continued to increase. The Gates Fire District responds to more than 5,500 calls annually. In 1989, the laborers were officially indoctrinated into the civil service system, and their job titles became “firefighters”. On September 24, 1997, the firefighters and dispatchers of the Gates Fire District were inducted into the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF). This was considered a major step in protecting the working conditions, benefits and welfare of the members and their families. By 1996, the number of civil service firefighters grew to 8, along with two dispatchers who were also granted civil service status. During this time, the members established themselves as a vital part of the Gates Fire District as professional firefighters and dispatchers. Today, there are 63 professional firefighters along with 4 professional dispatchers. We are proud to report there is career staffing at all three fire houses in the town. There is 1 engine, 1 Truck, and a Battalion chief at headquarters, 1 engine at station 2, and 1 Truck at station 3. We are committed to providing 24 -7 coverage to the citizens of the town of Gates and a portion of Chili!

We stand by our brothers and sisters of the Durham Fire Department after losing a brother yesterday during a commercial building fire. Firefighter Brokes paid the ultimate sacrifice while searching for victims! Please pray for Firefighter Brokes, his family, friends and his brothers and sisters of Durham Fire.

We are heartbroken to share that Firefighter Andrew Brokes died in the line of duty this morning while searching for victims inside the building at 410 Marly Drive.

Firefighter Brokes, who joined the Durham Fire Department on May 5, 2025, served the Durham community with dedication, courage, and a deep commitment to the residents of the Bull City.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our department, the family, and the entire community,” said Durham Fire Chief Robert J. Zoldos II. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones and his colleagues, and we ask that you respect the family’s privacy during this unimaginably difficult time. The department is standing with and supporting his family in every possible way.”

Two other firefighters were injured during the incident and were taken to Duke Medical Center. Both have received care and are expected to make full recoveries.

This loss is felt across our entire department. Firefighters step into unpredictable situations every day in service to others, and Firefighter Brokes embodied that calling with honor.

We know our community is grieving alongside us. If you wish to share your condolences or messages of support, they will be received with gratitude by our department and by those who knew and loved Firefighter Brokes.

In the coming days, we will share more information about how we will honor his service and support the firefighters involved in this incident.

Thank you, Durham, for surrounding our DFD family with care during this profoundly difficult time.

Talk about an unexpected stop during district familiarization! While out checking local businesses today, the crew of Engine 4512 got to meet a very special guest visiting town—Ruckus, a baby Australian kangaroo!
Ruckus was out spreading smiles, and our crew couldn't resist holding him and posing for a few photos. Safe to say he made a few new friends with our Professional Firefigters today🚒❤️

🧥 Keeping Kids Warm This Winter! ❤️

Yesterday our members had coat sizing day in conjunction with operation warm for Kids, helping make sure local children have a warm coat for the cold months ahead.

It’s more than just a coat—it’s warmth, comfort, and one less thing for a family to worry about.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible. Serving our community—on and off duty. 🚒❤️

🚒👶 When the Call Is a Little Different…

Our professional firefighters answered the call when Alyze Boston went into labor in Gates — helping safely deliver her baby before getting her to the hospital.

Proud of our professional firefighters and the many ways they serve our community every day!

A Gates mom delivered a healthy baby girl in her car at a Sunoco station, steps from the fire department. First responders rushed in, then reunited with the newborn days later in a feel good follow-up.
