NCCADV attended Governor's signing of Senate Bill 429!
Key changes include:
(1) Survivors outside of NC now file for a DV protective order
(2) Victims now have 6 months (instead of 72hours) to report criminally injurious conduct and qualify for compensation.
These updates mean greater access to safety and support.

💔 She slipped a note into her son’s lunchbox before school… never knowing it would be the last one he’d ever get. 💔
Romeca Meeks was just being a mom — dropping off her child, heading to work.
Instead, in broad daylight, in front of her son's school:
🩸 The father of her child put her in a headlock.
🩸 Another woman grabbed a g*n.
🩸 And Romeca was shot in the face.
Her son watched his mother’s life stolen.
And the man who should’ve protected her stood over her, calling it “self-defense.”
Romeca didn’t deserve this.
She was a mother. A provider. A woman trying to live.
This isn’t just tragedy it’s betrayal.
And it’s a reminder: domestic violence doesn’t hide in the dark.
Sometimes it happens in the daylight, in front of children, in front of the world.
