Congratulations Direct Hire Class #6 πŸš’πŸ§‘β€πŸš’

Today is a proud day for the City of Rock Hill, SC and the Rock Hill Fire Department, as we recognize three new direct hires for the completion of their training and the beginning of a new chapter in their careers: Cody Cathey (Engine 3), Briley Comer (Engine 2) and Fernando Diaz (Engine 5).

Unlike our traditional recruit academy, they each arrived with some form of previous fire training and experience. Over the past four weeks, they have been challenged mentally, physically and emotionally to learn what it means to serve as a member of the RHFD.

Help us congratulate them and officially welcome them to the Rock Hill Fire Department! πŸŽ‰πŸ‘

Do you know the difference between the sound a smoke alarm makes vs a carbon monoxide alarm? 🚨

If you hear either one of these sounds, Get Out, Stay Out and CALL 9-1-1.

Don’t forget these additional tips:
🚨 test alarms monthly
πŸ§‘β€πŸ§‘β€πŸ§’β€πŸ§’ have a family escape plan and practice regularly
πŸ”‹ change batteries yearly or if they start to chirp
πŸ’¨ have a smoke alarm in every bedroom + all common ways and have at least one carbon monoxide alarm on each level
⏰ replace alarms every 10 years or based on manufacturer recommendations

πŸ”‹ We’re Charging Into Fire Safety

To kick off Fire Prevention Month and (October 4-10), Andrew Brownfield stopped by HQ to deliver fire safety toolkits (provided by State Farm and National Fire Protection Association) that firefighters can use when talking to children about fire prevention and safety. πŸš’πŸ”₯

This year’s Fire Prevention Week focuses on reducing the risk of lithium-ion battery fires. Use your charging superpowers and remember these lithium-ion battery safety tips.

β€’ charge on a hard, flat surface
β€’ unplug devices when fully charged
