Predictably, when surveillance tech like Flock and automated license plate readers are installed everywhere, they WILL be abused by the police, who we are told are supposed to keep us “safe.”

No more mass surveillance, no more Flock!

The Moline Police Department is pausing its fixed Automated License Plate Reader camera program with Flock Safety.

The technology has been a valuable public safety tool, but the laws and public expectations around its use continue to evolve.

Police Chief Darren Gault determined that pausing the program is the appropriate step right now, as the department works to balance public safety with public confidence in how the technology is used.

Moline's nine Flock Safety cameras are expected to be turned off within 14 days. It may take another 30 to 60 days to physically remove the cameras, but they will no longer be operational.
