Day 1 of the 250th Ride was absolutely legendary! We kicked off our ORV ride in Evanston, slowly carving our way to Rock Springs, WY. This portion of the ride featured unique formations, such as Eagle Rock and Church Butte, as well as locations that hold significant historical value, including the Piedmont Kilns State Historic Site and Granger Stage Station.

The highlight of this day was seeing how much the landscape changes across Southwest Wyoming - from green prairies to red rock formations, and from sagebrush fields to mountains in the distance.

Start your adventure today by ordering your ORV decal at WyoTrails.OneWyo.Gov/wyotrails.

Thanks to the Wyoming State Trails Program and the Wyoming Office of Outdoor Recreation, in collaboration with Southwest Wyoming Off-road Trails (SWOT), the Wyoming Trails Alliance, and the Sweetwater Snowpokes Snowmobile and ATV Club for this opportunity.

Stay tuned for Day 2!

The route featured our unique landscapes - from the Red Desert and sand dunes, to open prairies dotted by pronghorn, to the iconic and rocky Medicine Bow Mountains.

🚨 Snowmobile Safety Alert: Use Extreme Caution This Season 🚨

The Wyoming State Trails Program is urging snowmobilers to slow down and ride cautiously this winter.

The season has already seen four snowmobile-related fatalities in Wyoming, highlighting dangerous trail conditions across the state.

“Many high-elevation trails are open, but conditions are far from ideal,” said State Trails Program manager Forrest Kamminga. “Riders are encountering hard, icy, and packed snow that significantly reduces control.”

What riders need to know:
• Trails are icy and hard-packed due to limited snowfall

• Braking, steering, and cornering are compromised

• Downhill sections pose a higher risk of losing control

• Low snow cover increases the chance of hitting rocks, stumps, or timber—especially off-trail

Safety reminders:
• Slow down and allow more time to stop

• Choose shorter routes or less demanding terrain

• Stay on established trails whenever possible

Snowmobiling is an important winter tradition in Wyoming. Until snowfall improves conditions, riders should assume every turn and descent carries added risk. The goal of every ride is to return home safely.

Wyoming State Trails Program Encourages Riders to Prepare for Winter Season ❄️

Snowmobile season arrives quickly across Wyoming, and riders are encouraged to prepare early by purchasing required user fee decals and reviewing safety information before heading out on the trails.

Decals are available now at wyotrails.onewyo.gov/wyotrails. Riders can have their sticker mailed or pick it up in person at one of several authorized selling agent locations statewide.

👉 Resident decals: $50
👉 Nonresident decals: $75
👉 Commercial permits: $150 (available at the State Trails Field Office in Lander)

Under legislation approved during the 2025 session, updated snowmobile user fees help fund grooming, signage, equipment maintenance, and trailhead facilities — supporting more than 2,000 miles of designated snowmobile trails across Wyoming.

The Wyoming State Trails Program reminds riders to enjoy the season responsibly by following key safety and courtesy guidelines:

🗺 Know your route, weather, and terrain before heading out.
🧤 Dress appropriately for cold and changing conditions.
⚠️ Obey on-the-ground signage and obtain maps of riding areas to ensure you avoid any closures that could affect wilderness designations, critical wildlife winter range, or private property.

Trail maps are available for download at wyotrails.com or in print at selling agent locations and visitor centers statewide.

Learn more or purchase your decal at wyotrails.onewyo.gov/wyotrails, where you’ll also find a map of authorized selling agent locations across Wyoming.
