Our monthly Book Discussion meets Thursday, November 19, 2–3 PM, and we’d love to see you there. Come chat, connect with fellow readers, and maybe find your next great read.

Quick correction: We’re reading The Frozen River by Ariel Lawhon, a gripping historical mystery set in 1789 Maine. (Not The Frozen River by Clare Flynn, which we shared by mistake earlier. Same title, different book!) If you already started the Flynn novel, we hope you enjoy it, and you’re still welcome to join us!

Join us as we welcome local historian and author Kathi Kresol as she shares some fascinating stories she has uncovered during her research of Winnebago County's cemeteries. These include dramatic stories of local founding families, quirky residents, and others that once called this county home. These stories will include well known individuals as well as the more "infamous" characters from this region.

Celebrate Día de los Mu***os with Rockford Public Library by helping us fill our community ofrendas with cherished memories.

Beginning October 16, bring a snapshot of a loved one to the Account Center at the Main Library or the Reception Desk at the Montague Branch. We can scan your photo and make a color copy for the ofrenda, so you can keep the original.

The ofrendas will be on display at the Main Library (215 N. Wyman St.) and the Montague Branch (1238 S. Winnebago St.) through November 6.

Together, let’s honor and remember those who hold a special place in our hearts.

This month the LGBTQ+ Book Club is going to be discussing All Boys Aren't Blue by George M Johnson, in celebration of LGBTQ+ History Month and a belated observance of Banned Books Week. This is a powerful, accessible memoir told in essays written about the author's childhood to young adulthood growing up in New Jersey and Virginia, and the experiences he had navigating family, friends, masculinity, and more. Join us on October 17 from 11:00 am to noon at the Main library, 215 N. Wyman St., to discuss the book. Everyone is welcome, and it's alright if you have not finished the book in time for the meeting.
