The Sales Surtax and Millage work together to support Brevard Public Schools. Neither are new taxes. Both are already in place.

Sales Surtax funding helps maintain secure, modern school facilities and technology infrastructure, while Millage funding supports the people and programs that make learning happen every day. Each funding source serves a distinct purpose, and the funds cannot be used interchangeably.

Surtax funding supports the security tools Brevard Public Schools relies on every day. This is not a new tax.

At Ronald McNair Magnet Middle School, we look forward to the installation of the OpenGate advanced weapons detection system this school year. OpenGate screens for weapons while maintaining a fast and efficient flow of students, staff, and visitors entering campus.

OpenGate allows individuals to walk through with most personal items without stopping, helping reduce delays while enhancing campus security.

The Sales Surtax renewal of the existing half-cent sales tax helps ensure we can continue improving these protective measures so every school remains a safe, welcoming place for students to learn.

Celebrating the final day of our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration! 🎉🌎💃

Today, students in Ms. Rivera’s and Ms. Bravo’s classes wrapped up a wonderful month of learning by reviewing the history and importance of Hispanic Heritage Month, dancing to Hispanic music, and sampling delicious Hispanic foods. It was a fun and meaningful experience that helped students appreciate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Hispanic communities.

What a way to wrap up 1st Quarter! 🏀 Our first PBIS event of the year featured an exciting Student vs. Student basketball game between First Lunch “Team Blue” 🔵 and Second Lunch “Team Black” ⚫.

A huge shoutout to all of the students who demonstrated positive behavior and earned the opportunity to attend. Your hard work, respect, and responsibility paid off!

The Millage renewal invests directly in the educators who serve Brevard students every day. This is not a new tax.

80% of Millage funding supports employee compensation, including additional pay for instructional personnel based on their years of teaching experience and performance.

At Ronald McNair Magnet Middle School, Coach Terry Woxberg brings 34 years of teaching experience to the classroom. Coach Woxberg has taught physical education and is currently McNair’s MTSS Coordinator. His contribution over the years is immeasurable as he’s touched thousands of lives. He is a cornerstone of McNair’s faculty and school community. His experience helps provide students with strong instruction, consistency, and support year after year.

By recognizing the value of experience, Millage-funded compensation increases over time to reward educators for their years of service and dedication to their profession. This investment encourages experienced teachers to continue building their careers in Brevard Public Schools, benefiting both students and school communities.
