We wanted to provide the community with an update regarding youth e-bike safety in Rocklin and the impact the Rocklin Unified School District Class 2 e-bike policy has had so far in 2026.

In 2025, Rocklin experienced 21 collisions involving e-bike riders between the ages of 11-15. The district adopted the Class 2 e-bike ban for K-8 campuses in December of 2025 and enforcement began on February 2nd of this year. Since that date, we have had a 64% reduction in collisions involving an 11-15 year old e-bike rider, compared to the same time period last year (11 vs 4). The numbers do not lie and the policy is clearly having a positive impact.

While the larger e-bike issue is not completely solved and we still have work to do related to evening and weekend behavior, particularly in parking lots and parks, these early results are extremely encouraging and show that the policy is making a difference. As we head into summer and eventually the start of the new school year this fall, this is also a good reminder that K-8 campuses within RUSD are “Class 1 Only” (no Class 2, 3, scooters or motos) when it comes to e-transportation.

We are incredibly proud of the work done in partnership with Rocklin Unified School District and want to specifically recognize the courage and leadership shown by the district in taking action on an issue that directly impacts student safety. Their efforts have very likely prevented serious injuries and saved lives.

Thank you to our officers, school staff, parents, and community members who continue to work together to improve safety for everyone.

As we close out Bike Safety Month and head into summer - when more bikes, e-bikes, scooters, and pedestrians are out on our roads - a few important safety reminders for bicyclists and riders:

🚲 Bicycles are considered vehicles and are subject to most of the same rules of the road as your car
⚠️ Obey speed limits
🛑 Stop at stop signs and traffic signals
🚸 Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and on sidewalks
🚲 Bicycles SHALL be ridden in the same direction as traffic, this includes while in bike lanes and if you’re riding on the sidewalk
🚴‍♂️ Bicyclists under 18 years of age are required to wear a helmet
🚨 Bicycles are required to have a forward-facing white light and a red rear light when riding at night
🎶 Avoid using headsets or earbuds that cover both ears when riding

Let's all keep Rocklin a safe place to bike and drive.

Last year, 73% of bicycle collisions involved juveniles.

PARENTS! Teaching your child responsible biking habits early helps them stay safe and enjoy the ride! GET INVOLVED in your child's safety education.

Here’s how you can help:
🚲 Ride together, the way you want them to ride: with traffic, obeying signals, and staying alert and off the phone.
🚴‍♂️ Helmet = non-negotiable. Make sure they wear a properly fitted helmet every time they ride.
🚦 Teach kids the rules of the road. Stopping at stop signs, looking both ways, and signaling turns are must-know skills.
🚴🚴‍♂️ Supervise when needed. Younger riders should have an adult nearby until they’re confident and responsible on the road.
🚲 Buying an e-bike? Make sure it's safe and legal and allowed on Rocklin Unified School District campuses and city streets.

Can't stop, won't stop. Stop signs not optional.

We continue to see drivers rolling through or completely disregarding stop signs (at 50 mph?!) in local neighborhoods. Many of these violations are committed by residents who drive these streets every day.

Full stop for safety. Or risk a citation.

Where we've been. Where we are now.

In partnership with the Rocklin Public Safety Foundation, we embarked on a unique yearlong project to preserve and restore an important piece of the department’s history in 2025.

It was inspired by a historic photo taken at the corner of Pacific St and Rocklin Rd and featured a 1970 Mercury Monterey. We set out to bring this iconic vehicle back to life as a tribute to our legacy.

After months of initial searching, a donor vehicle was located in Colorado. It was inspected, secured, and transported back to Rocklin where it was completely disassembled, repaired, and fully restored, down to the classic black-and-white paint scheme. The result was a patrol car in a condition exceeding its original showroom quality of 1970.

You may see the vehicle out and about at events, touring with the Chief or other PD staff. More than just a display piece, it represents the pride, professionalism, and service that have defined our department for generations.

🚦 Traffic Signal Out? Treat It Like a Stop Sign. 🚦

If a traffic light is dark or flashing due to a power outage or malfunction, drivers are required to come to a complete stop in all directions before proceeding safely through the intersection.

Parts of Rocklin are currently experiencing an outage and traffic signals may be flashing until power is restored.
