Delaine fought Prop 187 Delaine Eastin for Governor – Let's Build a Better California
Delaine is running for Governor because she knows we can do better. She was born in San Diego to Hank and Dotty Eastin. That is why I am running for Governor.
Her father was a Navy machinist and her mother a dress sales clerk. Education and hard work were the values she was taught. California can and should lead America with innovative solutions to real life challenges that start with a dedication to the education of our children. In the Assembly she chaired the Education Committee and sponsored major legislation to reform California’s education system.

Delaine fought Prop 187 Delaine Eastin for Governor – Let's Build a Better California
Delaine's father was a union machinist. Her mother was a dress clerk. They weren’t rich, but they didn’t have to be for her parents to own their own home, buy a car and send her to college.
California needs a visionary governor with a brass backbone, who isn’t afraid of bullies and will not kowtow to the rich and powerful. Delaine is not afraid to take on the greed that has hurt the middle class, be it through falling wages or rising costs.
That is who she is, what she has always done, and what she will do as Governor.
"We need a visionary governor with a brass backbone who isn't afraid of bullies. That's who I'll be as governor."
— Delaine Eastin, at the 2018 California Democratic Party Democratic National Convention
By 2020, 65% of all jobs will require a post-secondary education. Yet today, about 11% of Latino adults have a college degree. How would the next Governor help address this issue?
