WRC is always looking to expand our knowledge base and be involved in ways to protect our avian species. One thing we were lacking in was how to become involved in disaster response. For the last three days we attended a Wildlife Resiliency Exercise hosted by the Oceans and Wildlife Institute at the Texas State Aquarium. The information during classes and training we received during today's simulated emergency exercise will enable us to be called to respond should the need ever arise. We even got to share our knowledge of how to clean avian species with fellow attendees that had never had the opportunity to rescue a wildbird.
We met so many amazing individuals from:
Texas State Aquarium
Oceans and Wildlife Institute (OWI)
Aransas and San Patricio Emergency Management
Texas Parks and Wildlife Dept
Port of Corpus Christi
State of Texas Oil Spill Prevention & Response
US Fish and Wildlife
National Parks, Padre Island National Seashore
Texas Land Office
Texas Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Naval Air Station Corpus Christi Fire and Emergency Services
US Coast Guard
It was such a great experience to sit and chat with all these entities. All of us with the sole purpose of protecting our Gulf Coast Wildlife.
